Awwwwwwww. Shucks.

Finally ……….finally on this mega-thread, we had a post alluding to some sort of Brexit benefit (albeit tenuous, verging on the delusional).

Turns out, it was all just an illusion.

Just like the Unicorns. And sunlit uplands.

As much as I love to tear holes in Brexit and the rockets that voted for it, that's a global supply chain issue which started when Covid first hit China and has grown over the last 18 months with the Suez canal blockage really making it worse.

The gaps on our supermarket shelves is 100% a Brexit benefit though 👍

Empty supermarket shelves are not 100% down to Brexit.

That's good, only 2016's total to overhaul now and Brexit be victorious.

Article 50 wasn't invoked until 2017, so nice try but no cigar.

I'm sure there'll be a gold medal deluge at Paris 2024, once a few of those unicorns we were promised are trained up to dance in the dressage.

Private Eye……. 😃

Hopefully we get that trade deal with India signed-up soon, as we need as many extra new immigrants to plug the gaps created by the European labour we have lost.

That deal will allow many more thousands to come here than was previously allowed. And given that the average hourly wage in India is less than £2, hopefully there will be plenty of Indian people clamouring to come here and do some very important work in our fields, on our roads, in our pubs and in our hospital wards.

Maybe call it "Rushwind" or something.

:look:

And the ‘good’ thing is that in 50 years time, when we START to see the benefits of Brexit as per Rees-Moggs prediction, (setting aside the absence of specific details), we can punt them back to India on the premise that they cannot prove their status.

‘Great’ Britain indeed.

70,000 EU citizens claiming benefits in Britain are about to be cut off because they haven't applied for settled status.

It makes me wonder how many haven't been cut off

Hear Gov, People don't honestly believe this pingdemic nonsense. Surely people know the 3 months at the first lockdown and the added mismanagement of Brexit caused these shortages. But to laugh it off with pingdemic nonsense, that's up there with making fun out of destroyed lives with that Thatcher joke.

One day soon Boris will have some sort of payback. Whether that's Prison, total political disgrace or the man who lost Scotland, I have no idea, but I'd be surprised if the north of England will let that Thatcher remark go unnoticed.

Anyway, I'm back and going nowhere. :cheese: 👍

Vodafone the next mobile phone provider to bring back roaming charges from January.

These Brexit dividends are all getting a bit too much, there are so many benefits that it's actually hard to keep track of all the good things.

Roaming means connecting to the network, so unless you keep your phone in airplane mode you'll be stung for £1/day.

Mobile companies have a habit of phasing out old tarrifs when it suits them, so it might not catch everyone initially but will eventually.

Maybe not a ballbreaker, just another example of those that fell for the supposed benefits of Brexit being sold a pup.

So even having your mobile data switched off it’ll cost you?

It only became free roaming in 2016. Prior to that, I used to switch off my roaming when I landed in the EU so I wasn't charged.

It was a lot more than a pound a day back then

But it's clearly a negative for British consumers going abroad compared to the rights we had established in the EU right?

"It's not all that bad" isn't a very strong argument

I remember the chat before indyref about prices rising, food shortages, mobile phone bills rising etc etc plus we’d be out the EU and it was almost the end of the world.
We’ve even got the army delivering shit

But its “not that bad” now?

This is the point isn’t it? Like the BS on the side of that bus, any reasonable predictions about the downsides of Brexit were shouted down by the same gang that ‘painted’ that red bus. Roaming Charges was a prime example of “Project Fear”, like so many other things, have come to pass.

I give you, John Redwood -

John Redwood

This news brings us nearly to Sept 2018 when John Redwood wrote a blog tittle ‘Project Fear caricatures itself.’

In which he wrote…

The latest round of Project Fear stories are usually re runs of past versions of the same thing. This time they are often repeated in even shriller and more apocalyptic tones, as the clock ticks down to our exit in March 2019.

Let’s deal with a few of them:

1. They said ” The UK will lose the advantage of the EU policy removing roaming charges for use of mobiles around Europe.” This was often mentioned in the Referendum campaign as one of the few examples of a positive from the EU. This week the main mobile companies confirmed they will not be imposing new roaming charges when we leave! There is enough competition in the market to keep prices down. A company like Vodafone anyway offers free roaming for non EU countries like Norway and Turkey as well as Iceland, a country which cancelled its application to join the EU. It is always wise to check your contract, as the so called EU free roaming may well have a usage limit.

Be thankful you don’t live in Wales or Cornwall. The Cornish were told to “F******g shut up” by Tory Grandee Nicholas Soames when they complained about the fact that the U.K. govt will not honour their promise to match the EU funding they have now lost as a result of Brexit. Similarly, the Welsh are now moaning that the £400 million funding the EU provided previously will be replaced with a miserly £10 million U.K. grant.

I would expect that Council Taxes will be increasing at a much higher rate in those parts of the U.K. Shame. But they got their ‘Sunny Uplands’ after all.

Soames is a remainer and was pointing out that the people of Cornwall voted for Brexit, so they are being hypocritical by complaining about its negative consequences.

Although his choice of language was maybe unnecessarily robust
