First words were significant setting out what EU was prepared to accept.

Surprised no one has picked that up.

Totally agree. The backstop is going to be a killer - EU have already told Switzerland (who effectively want to join EU ) how it's going to be so there's no chance of UK getting the upper hand on this. IMO.

If they had a different leader they would be absolutely ripping the Tories to bits for the foreseeable future.

The only thing worse than the current Tory shambles, would be labour under Corbyn

The middle classes WONT vote for him

Fully agree. Socialism is a ridiculous concept in which to run a country.

Why is this current chaos any suprise to the PM
"The reality is that we do not know on what terms we would win access to the single market.  We do know that in a negotiation we would need to make concessions in order to access it, and those concessions could well be about accepting EU regulations, over which we would have no say, making financial contributions, just as we do now, accepting free movement rules, just as we do now, or quite possibly all three combined.

"It is not clear why other EU member states would give Britain a better deal than they themselves enjoy."
Theresa May April 2016

She was specifically asked to confirm that the current deal is better than the new deal that's just been negotiated but just danced around it. Shame someone didn't think to read what you posted.

May just talking about EU conceding.

Repeated EU offered Norway or Canada model but made concessions.

This will be a crucial point for debate / discussion.

ANY Brexit deal is going to be worse than Remain.

It's simple as that.

In fairness the Brexit deal promised at the referendum did guarantee ALL the current EU benefits plus £350m a week plus whichever particular beef you have personally with the EU being fixed ?

Some backbenchers have pointed this out in the Commons, saying this is grounds to take it back to the people. Probably been mentioned 5 times now - but May absolutely not considering it.

can  we not just give the EU rangers as a compromise?

Then they would have some of Northern Ireland, and the UK could keep the rest

Another (Labour) backbencher saying it must go to the people because the first referendum was based on promises but a second one would be based on her deal, which are NOT the  same. She's just refusing to answer now.

She was in an impossible situation, I'd go that far. She put Brexiters into the negotiations and they failed. She admitted in her speech this morning that EU refused to budge on many issues.

Actually she sidelined Davis and allowed the unelected extremely enthusiastic remainer Robbins free reign to come up with this pish deal. Davis's paper was ripped up by May before it ever saw the light of day.

Am I missing something in all this ? How can it be that MPs will vote on the deal , but the public will NOT know how much worse off they will be in seeing their "will" implemented until AFTER the vote ? can anyone following the debate confirm - when did  May (did she ?) say the figures will be published ?

:rofl::rofl: This shitemare couldn't possibly be happening because this was a terrible f***ing idea that was never going to benefit the UK. It's all because of those damned meddling REMOANERS, especially one that hasn't even been in the Brexit cabinet for 14 months--10 months longer than Davis has been out as Brexit Secretary.:rofl:

But another referendum will be even uglier, and also fought on lies, half-truths and assumptions.

I agree that many people will have had their eyes opened as to the scale of the impact Brexit will have, but do we really think that the folk who are in Brexit heartlands will take the time to reconsider the situation or will they sit there and say "nah, unemployment is still high, immigration is still high, Labour has retreated to its London base and abandoned the North and we do not see the positive influence of Europe here at all - i'm sick of it and i'm voting Leave again".

I mean an independence referendum. Let English and Welsh **** up their own country and principality.

So just maybe we should have held a cross-party National Convention on Brexit instead of the Tories trying to use it as a power grab and mould the entire nation to their whims?

Since neither Tories nor Labour are remotely united on the issue why would putting the two together in a National Convention (whatever that is) make things anything better?

True there would be a Remain majority. I suspect that would be the point, a way the 85% of MPs who voted for a referendum could overturn the result. Which I suspect they will in effect send up doing anyway.

To a large degree it is.  It's  also a rejection of the EU deciding our laws for us.  I have criticisms of the EU, but I still voted remain on the basis that it's probably better being inside the tent pissing out than vice versa.

Mogg’s letter is going in

This almost inevitably means a vote on whether May can carry on as PM - thumping of desks as Mogg finishes his speech to colleagues

The Chamber is well empty and yet she keeps on answering questions.  Seems pointless to be honest as the real power is sitting plotting in other parts of the House as I type.   She is like a lame duck plodding on regardless.   I honestly think she is in denial.

I would not blame her if she did. As I said earlier the job is a poison chalice to who gets it be that Tory or Labour. It’s s no win situation.

From Twitter - As for #Brexit, to paraphrase Woody Allen: "the UK faces a crossroads. One path leads to despair and utter hopelessness. The other, to total extinction. Let us pray we have the wisdom to choose correctly".
