I'm still at sea for another week, but Mrs Tarkin says the Moretti is fantastic and she can't wait to try the Sol.

I only ordered 40 pints so I hope ther's some left by the time I get home!

Time to bump this thread, so here goes.

Β

Sitting drinking this just now.

Β

Smoked Porter from Estonia, 5.4%.

Quite a strong smoked smell, but the taste whilst smoked isn't overwhelmingly strong, thus making it drinkable, not really into smoked beer, but this is ok, don't think I could drink more than one though.

Drinking Porters at this time of the year is very appealing.

Matured in Highland Park 12 yr old Single Malt casks and comes in at 8%.

Β

Similar taste as Harviestoun Old Engine Oil Beer but with added whisky taste to it.

Β

Pretty good I must say, but I'm biased as I like this type of beer.

I was given a couple of these a month ago - lovely stuff.

McEwans Headspace is excellent - try their Champion excellent too.

Sainsbury's Taste the Difference London Porter brewed by Shepherd Neame is very, very good too.

I was a bit sceptical at first, thinking it wouldn't be a patch on either Belgian or Dutch Trappist beers, but I was wrong, it's right up there with them, had it a few times now since I tried it for the first last year.

Β

Had a bottle of McEwans Champion last night, it's on offer at my local co-op just now @Β£1.83 a bottle, it's been on offer since January, I've lost count of the number of them I've drank since then.

The Sainsbury's London Porter could very well be the same as Asda Whitechapel Porter brewed by Shepherd Neame as well, probably just the same beer but different labels.

Β

When I can't get new beers I often go back over one's I've had years ago, the likes off Headspace, Champion, Broughton Old Jock, Inverlamond Lia Fail, Cairngorm Wildcat etc etc etc.

A limited edition Vintage Ale from my local brewery at Traquair House Brewery.

Every year they are going to produce a special ale, this is the first one in the series a strong 8.5% vintage ale.

Tells the story of this ale.

If you click on the Brewery link at the top of the page you'll be able to see the brewery with it's ancient oak tuns which are still in use today.

A brewery I've been in many times, including a special private tour of the brewery and the house, which my daughters organised a few years back for my birthday, including beer tasting, it was a good hour and a half private tour, including normally off limit areas, excellent.

I like most beer styles, from Blonde Ale right through to Porters.

Lager it has to either be hot weather and the lager ice cold or often abroad it's all they have, although better choice nowadays.

Never been a lover of Wheat beers, can count on one hand the number that I've liked and not into what seems to be a modern faze of what I can only discribe as alcoholic fizzy fruit juice labeled as beer, in my mind it's akin to Barcardi Breezers and the multitude of other similar drinks which were popular in the 90's/00's, certainly not what I class as a beer.

Much the same myself, jimbo, the only time I’ll have a lager these days is when I’m abroad andΒ the choice is limited, although having said that I do try and seek out a pub that is serving some decent craft beer. Never got into the fruit or wheat beers.Β
