The flight was a nightmare with the unwashed hoards heading to their Vegas gathering. They said they were asked repeatedly to settle down on the flight and eventually they all did bar one, who was dancing on the seats etc. "apparently he used to be a player for them.... Bertie Auld?" Spoilers below (to save folks eyes), but can you imagine having booked a trip to Vegas and landing up in this hotel? ? A few lads I was at school with were on S forms at Hibs when he was the manager and he was universally disliked by them all. Went as far as humiliating one of them at a training session as his parents couldn't afford new boots. The lad never went back and it totally killed his dream of being a footballer. As regards the Celtic bus from The Centurion - it seemed to be non-locals who travelled to the pub to get the bus. We certainly never recognised anyone from the area getting on. I worked in WH Smith on Princes Street (now Zara) in 1984-85, and it was a popular choice for a treat then. Definitely more of a restaurant than a bar, though, and was before Rose Street going up. Only once went away with the Centurion bus. Dens Park 77-78 our first season down. Remember it being quite an eventful trip for someone just not long turned 14. Seem to recall the Celtic bus leaving at the same time and no trouble between the two sets of fans. Still seems strange to this day that a Hearts bus and a Celtic bus could leave from the same pub.
