Paterson at Cardiff ( merged )

I know he asked for a year extension a few months back but our DOF wouldn't budge on his offer of a 2 year deal. Who's the selfish one?

Going by recent ITK posts from people on here, you'll forgive me for not believing you.

Every man and their dog on this forum seem to know personal goings on with Hearts players.

Callum has all the attributes to make it in England. He still has a bit of development on the defensive aspects of his game to go though. Cardiff seems like a good fit at this stage in his career. Nearly 40 goals in just over 160 games is a fantastic return for what is essentially a 22 year old full back.

A lovely touch including the sell on clause too. All the best Dr Funk.

You've called him selfish and later it transpires he had a clause inserted giving us a sell on fee.

Likely cost him a small part of a bonus or something unless Cardiff were just feeling charitable.

Maybe take a step back from the CP bashing, he's done far more for us than most of the players we've had on our books these past few seasons.

Good luck to him.

Notice he also insisted on a 15% sell in fee being added to his contract so Hearts can possibly benefit in the future.

Hope he does well.

I made one point about it. Hardly a bashing.

I suppose we just have to get used to players coming through the ranks and leaving to the first club that waves a wad of cash at them. That's pro football nowadays.

Seems unusual that the player would be involved in any way in the transfer negotiation. Surely the club would have insisted on a sell on fee anyway? Doesn't add up.

Edit: it's a development fee not a transfer fee, my bad

Why doesn't him insisting on a sell on fee add up? The club cannot insist on a sell on fee as he is not contracted and CP is essentially walking away, we are lucky he is young that ensures we get a development fee.

CP sounds like he credits Hearts with his development and injury rehabilitation so wants to try to repay us.

You are looking for scandal where there is none!

At the request of Callum Paterson, who was wary of leaving on the cheap, Hearts will get a sell-on fee if Cardiff cash in on him in future

nice one Callum, good guy

Saw this, really good show from Callum and changes my opinion on it, its good to see he recognises the situation.

Really shows his character, good guy is Paterson.

He played over 150 games. I think he's entitled to it. Who the hell wants to play St Johnstone four times a season?

I'm hoping for a club to buy him for a big fee in a few years time after his very unselfish final act :)

Big Moysey

All the best Callum. Real pity about his injury. Really missed him last 5 months and probably cost him a better move and the club a substantial sum of dosh. Hope you go on to great things.

Cardiff have got themselves a great player for next to nothing.

All the best Callum.  Keep your head down and keep progressing.

Here's hoping he does well and moves for ?15m next season. :)

Even a ?5m transfer would net us ?750,000.

Knowing our luck Cardiff will let his contract run down...

Classy touch on the sell-on fee and deserved his move after long, dedicated service

Nice to see Warnock crediting Levein Budge and Patterson for getting the clause

They didn't have to but respected both Callum and the DOF for the way they went about business

Our dip in form after he got injured was no coincidence.

He gave us his all in every game, scored some fantastic goals, and a deserved fans' favourite.

These charges up the right wing! Once he got going there was no stopping him.

Sorry to see him go. Thanks for the memories.

Football people appreciate Levein  and the way the club is run, unlike some the haters on here.

The Cardiff City manager Neil Warnock confirmed the agreement to the Evening News as the right-back severed ties at Tynecastle after seven years. "I like Callum, I just got a feeling about him when I met him and I'm delighted to get him to Cardiff," said Warnock. "It?s the right time for the player and the club, and they?ve got a sell-on as well because they?ve developed him.

"I?m pleased because it?s a good club and I like Hearts. We wanted to do the right thing by them. I like Craig Levein, the director of football. We had some battles when he was at Leicester. I just think it?s a well-run club and I like the owner, Ann Budge, who has done a decent job."

Cruyff Turn

Paterson fits perfectly into a Warnock team. Attacking full back, long throw specialist, good in both boxes. He'll be utilized effectively by a Wiley old Fox like Warnock.

46 games a season in the Championship, I can see him banging double figures no problem.

He'll get noticed down there. 400k and 15% sell on fee and if he does well we could be looking at 600-800k further down the line.

We got a decent deal out of this. Very happy for ourselves, Callum and Cardiff have a really good player.

Give up on what? I'm simply having a conversation with people about the circumstances.

Good contribution to the thread you've made though. Keep at it, you'll soon get the hang of it.

Wasn't the general consensus on here at the turn of the year a 2 year deal was the only one that made any sense from the club's perspective?

heres hoping he takes the championship by storm, wins player of the year, scores 23 goals and goes for 40 mill to Liverpool

No problem with Calum leaving at all, he's earned it. It's the guys who talk about their next move before they've even produced the goods for us that I have no time for.

My favourite player of late! Gave 100% and scored some memorable goals! Heart of a lion for a young boy. He got hurt in a challenge some guys would not have made in his position. All the best big man. Great gesture too. Come back any time

Delighted for him but gutted. He's been my favourite player since he broke into the team. I even sponsored him one season.

He's a great guy and deserves every success as he works so hard and has a brilliant attitude.

Always respectful Warnock, which is always nice to see.

Regarding the way the club is being run by Levein. Did you go to any games last season under Cathro? The club has been an utter shambles and unusually, he's getting another chance.

Hopefully Levein can get it right this time and we can move forward. If not, I suspect his future will be interlinked with Cathro's, irrelevant of what football men like Warnock think.

Think we may have got slightly more. The club's down South are keen to avoid the tribunal and get business settled. No idea why Charlie Taylor of Leeds United will go for millions

What a great player Calumn has been, Cardiff have got a bargain. Tremendous gesture by him to insist on a sell on clause.
