Just makes me wonder what they're trying to hide somewhere else?

Full NHS privatisation?

Dissolving of devolved parliaments?

She is right in the sense that the government now have no moral authority or mandate to impose social restrictions, particularly socialising in the privacy of your own home.People won’t tolerate it and people won’t comply with it.

As a compliant follower of whatever the rule of the day was and is throughout the pandemic, I’ll not be allowing them to tell me again who I can have in my house.

The other side of the coin is that people knew what they were voting for when they voted for a Tory government with Johnson at its head. They can’t now complain about anything corrupt or self serving or morally bankrupt that he or his government do. They (the UK electorate) overwhelmingly put him there knowing what was likely.

Spot on there.

People who voted him in knew he was a liar, a cheat and a fraud. The fact that he's lying and cheating to them now is actually quite cute.

I agree. Storm in a teacup just leave Johnson in charge. Heaven forbid they empty him and get someone competent in charge anytime soon.
This union will be in ashes with him at the wheel.

Cressida Dick keeps her job z bit longer.

I can see a seat in the Lords on the horizon for 'services to the country'

Dame Dick's appointment was extended by two years despite a hatful of calls for her to be investigated/disciplined or similar for incompetence. She's now repaying the favour for her old Oxford college mate (albeit different year groups) by lifting the carpet while her "detectives" wield the broom. If she manages to get this to go away completely, that lordship must be in the bag.

I watched a clip of the interview with the single mum and then watched the footage of the creepy Tory boot pretending to cry earlier this afternoon again to cheer me back up. ❤️

She's awful, isn't she? The tears don't do it for me, though.

Here's the story as I see it.

1. There was a party downstairs at Boris & Carrie's. Of that, there is little doubt. But let's pretend we follow the Tory Story:

2. There was no party. It didn't happen. #10 have been fully compliant with their own advice and regulations all along. There is nothing to see here.

3. Allegra and a handful of others, including Johnson's current SPAD, had a jokey session 'pretending' to prepare for a press briefing where they might be asked questions about a party which, we've already established, didn't take place.

4. A video clip of that jokey, spoof press conference is released to ITV and, all of a sudden, Johnson is fuming about it.

5. Stratton resigns due to the 'shame' she 'feels' over the content of the video. She wasn't ashamed at the time but she's ashamed at having been caught out.

Now, there is no logical link between there not being a party and resigning from a £100k+ job over a video where you're joking about a party that never took place.

This leaves only one conclusion. There was a party and the leaked video of people very close to Johnson joking about there having been a party has exposed that there was a party. Still no real reason for Stratton to resign - her job is to create the smokescreens that cover up for Tory behaviour (although has she ever fronted a Downing St press conference??). So she's resigned despite having done her job as expected? She may have been paid off under a compromise agreement in the hope that it quietens the noise on the issue.

R4 had Sajid Javid on this morning repeating the lines about having had assurances that nothing untoward had gone on. He couldn't explain why he trusted those assurances. They're all ffff'k'nnn at it. (Edit - Except Rishi Sunak, he's keeping his powder dry and getting his contacts to release videos of Allegra Stratton's comedy press briefing).

Lib Dems now favourite to win North Shropshire by-election. If that happens then vote of no confidence in Boris inevitable.

If only the wee boy who's on the Labour ticket had agreed to step aside, it would almost definitely have given the Tories a bloody nose.

Labour too arrogant on this one, I feel. They came second in the last GE but the LDs had strong growth in the general election and massive growth in the local elections. Labour should have looked around and accepted that LDs are the "acceptable" alternative for disaffected Tories and North Shropshire is a Tory stronghold.

The Conservative party broke electoral laws over the controversial funding of Boris Johnson’s flat refurbishment, the Electoral Commission has ruled.

“Our investigation into the Conservative Party found that the laws around the reporting and recording of donations were not followed,” said Louise Edwards, director of regulation – announcing a £17,800 fine.

She should have been sacked, some might say prosecuted, over the de Menezes shooting 17 years ago. It's been a catalogue of mis-steps and disasters ever since.

What's clear is she's a political appointment and she's in the thrall of this criminal cabal.

He was campaigning yesterday, although none of the party's big hitters made the trip to Oswestry to support him. They should have just gone all out and said, 'let's get the tories out' rather than run the risk of splitting the vote. We know that the electorate, in general, is not that sophisticated and can do with having help wherever possible.

Good to see that the Electoral Commission was able to get hold of WhatsApp messages, yet they seem to have gone missing, along with phones, during covid contract negotiations with various Tory donors.

Very good summary

On North Shropshire there is an 'agreement' but they don't want to advertise it. Labour basically aren't campaigning there, same as Liberals didn't campaign in Batley & Spen which won Labour the seat. Labour also didn't campaign in Chesham & Amersham helping Liberals win.

Given how spurious the cause of her resignation is, I'm certain she could ooze into a cushty role in a Sunak administration, no questions asked. Especially if Johnson's head rolls as a result of the huge discrepancy I drew up earlier.

This is good to hear. I don't know why the Labour top brass haven't just gone two-footed on this one and told their Shropshire supporters that, for this by-election only, they should tick the LD box.
