I still love ******* and Goblin too, some absolute bangers on them. He's never been the best rapper but he's got such a charismatic voice and tons of energy he was so engaging to listen to.

Him and Frank Ocean the standouts of the Odd Future gang. As mentioned earlier, Earl has ability but the recent stuff is very hit and miss. Shoutout to Domo Genesis for his appearances on Piñata, one of my favourite hip hop albums of the last decade.

Frank Ocean - Blond is an insanely rare record. Not exactly my sort of thing but from what I've heard, it sounds okay. There are only about 1k legit copies and 20k bootlegs and it's never been repressed.

Yeah, the Gibbs and Madlib combo works really well. Madlib and Fourtet have announced they're releasing an album together. No idea what it will be like as Fourtet has never done hip hop, but is an incredible producer in his own right, so could be interesting.

That's wild, given how anticipated it was. Not really my thing as well.

Been tanning through the Wu Tang back catalogue (solo and groups) for the first time in a while in the past week. So much good stuff. Forgot how incredible Supreme Clientel by Ghostace is.

Great album.

Another rare record. Most of the major Wu solo records have been repressed loads of times but not that one for some reason.

Wish he'd just do an album with RZA, Madlib, El-P, Clams Casino, Alchemist or a proper producer and get back to making music that's entertaining and worth listening to.

He's talented but he's not using it.

Going by a couple of tweets from Alchemist the other day this looks like it could be happening :vrwow:

Would absolutely love to see Earl on an Alchemist-produced album, absolutely ****ing love it.

Reports that MF Doom passed away. I hope it's wrong.

I've been listening to so much of his stuff these past few weeks, I sincerely hope this is some hoax or some sort of miscommunication.

Absolutely horrific news if true.

I just googled after you said this. Seems to be true, his family have confirmed.

Absolutely devastated tbh. An absolute legend. What a horrible way to end the year. ****ing loved him.

Definitely. Passed the same day as Zaliukas too apparently. Always been a fairweather fan but it's only recently I've delved into his back catalogue. Had so much fun listening to his stuff as Vik Vaughn recently. Brutal shit man.

The Madvillainy album with Madlib is incredible. Really enjoyed his team up as Metal Face with Czarface recently too.

Nice man. Just been thinking back to Doom's numerous amazing projects. His King Geedorah album is brilliant as well.

Been listening to loads of Danny Brown recently. He's one of my favourites.

I don’t get upset often about people dying that I’ve never met but genuinely gutted to hear that Doom’s passed away. One of the greatest ever; never chased fame and let his music speak for itself. Incredible lyrics delivered like he’s not even trying. Glad I saw him live and glad I’ve got the records to listen to all day tomorrow.

RIP Daniel, hope youre at peace with your brother and son.

Relevant lyrics from the man himself.

Ever since the womb ‘til I'm back where my brother went
That's what my tomb will say
Right above my government; Dumile
Either unmarked or engraved, hey, who's to say?

Madvillainy is one of the greatest hip hop records ever made. Add vaudeville villain, mouse and the mask, special herbs, operation doomsday etc and it’s all gold.

I don't keep up with the scene at all, haven't for many years so I don't follow this thread.

I've no idea if these guys have been mentioned but I'm enjoying them so far

I love Clipping mate. Have done for years. Daveed Diggs is an incredible rapper.

Meh. John Coltrane and Herbie Hancock were better than all of them (apart from Davis).

Strange for someone who likes jazz to have such a closed mind about new music. Must be old age.

Yeah very impressed. I'll need to check out Hamilton, not sure what it is but it's good and he's in it apparently

It's a hip hop musical. I've watched parts of it and there are some good tunes in it. I really like their early album CLPPNG especially.

Yeah you're right. They must be fuming that hip hop is keeping jazz alive.

I get the impression weehammy probably doesn't really like jazz. Rather he seen a 6ix9ine music video and thinks it's cool to hate hip hop now.

Anyone who has open taste? Take away jazz and a lot of hip hop is someone rapping over the sound of silence.

It was tongue in cheek mate. Jazz, like Hip Hop, seems to be a genre which it's cool to hate. I wouldn't say I'm a jazz fan at all, but I'm hugely respectful of the genre and its pioneers. A Tribe Called Quest and De La Soul are probably my favourite all time musicians and they owe so much to jazz.

Jazz gave Hip Hop such inspiration and in turn, Hip Hop is keeping Jazz alive. Understandable to not like both, but always felt fans of each genre should have that mutual appreciation for each other.

I listen to both equally, probably slightly more jazz. Ron Carter played bass with all the jazz greats back in the day. He also played with Tribe Called Quest. And is officially a very cool man, though he didn’t like the bad language and insisted that there wasn’t any if he played in a track. He even manages to get a super smooth solo into this with MC Solaar.

I'll need to give that a wee play later. 👌

Young Dolph shot dead in Memphis aged 36. Got into him and Key Glock quite a bit lately. Shame.

I remember him. He got into a rivalry with Yo Gotti over who was bigger in Memphis.
