If he lives up to his potential, they won't need to sign another left back for a long time, so time will tell if he's worth it.

60 million on two players though. Big gamble.

If it pays off they won't need to think of another left back for 10-15 years.

As long as he doesn't get injured.

He is only 18 isn't he?

Cracking prospect. They could easily get 15 years out of him in todays market its a good deal for both parties.

Quite happy to see the back of Patrice Evra.

:jjyay:

Said it before and I'll say it again, massively over-rated footballer.

Just been confirmed.

Paying for potential and some England Premium. They did similar with Rooney and its worked out fairly well.

He stays for 10 years then that's ?3M per year....plus wages obviously but definitely a positive signing.

A lot of cash but the lads got potential could be at the club for many years so this might well turn out to be a great deal.

I doubt anywhere other than an English team would ever think about paying ?30m for Luke Shaw.As has been said above if the lad continues to progress he potentially could be there for the next 15 years and then it becomes a shrewd investment

Could have Daley Blind for half that. He is good though

Just took the words right out my mouth.

Could have signed Blind and the lad Davies from Swansea for that price as back up.

Ladbrokes suspend betting on de Vrij joining United.

Bruno Martins Indi next and United will have a solid defence.

Has he signed for 10-15 years? If not then he could leave after a few years for next to nothing.

Would it still be worth it then?

If someone told me that LVG is going to fill the United side with players from his Dutch side, I'd have snapped your hand off for that.

I would be trying to get the lad Depay as well for out wide

Quite happy getting that for him. ?30mill plus adds. Cash goes straight into Koemans transfer fund. We also have a ready made replacement in Matty Targett another academy product.

Evra.

Shaw is a great footballer with massive potential and seems a really down to earth lad too.

As a Valencia man, I'll heartily disagree.

That's a bold statement and totally remains to be seen.

Also I've not read any reports and in response to your comment re the money going straight into his transfer kitty. Has it actually been stated this will be the case? I appreciate a chunk will but with debts of ?56+ mill you'd expect some of it to clear some of it.

Was said in a statment on the OS the club will also reinvest any money made in transfers. The ?56mil debt is written off by the ?60mill for finishing 8th.

England's left-side - Shaw and Lallana - could move for a combined ?55m in the next week or two. That is all

And that sums up the madness of the English Premier League.

Van Gaal wants Vidal and Pogba they would be great signings.

Don't think he will get any of them especially not Pogba, most probably PSG bound the pair of them.

That's some going though I thought it might be the case.

Considered getting a ST at St Mary's seeing as I only made about 4 games home.

Vidal will be Madrid bound if he goes anywhere.

There's no way Pogba will go back to Old Trafford either.

If you are to get one try Blocks 42, 41, 40 right next to the away fans and best atmosphere

They would have got a few million for Buttner too.

Looks good business all things considered.

If he had no other options, I'd believe he'd consider it, but there's no way he's only going to have United after him.

Someone else has said PSG, I'd imagine that's where he'll go if he goes anywhere.

Shaw has absolutely everything required to be the best left back in the world, at 18 he's got 2 seasons experience in the premiership, england caps, pace, stamina, power, good positionally for the majority of a game, and a decent footballing brain too. Time will tell if he's worth the money but even now I think he's an excellent player.

I remember Spurs signing a young fast left back from Southampton a few years ago.

How did that one work out?
