Kev1961 Posted May 21 Posted May 21 "Sliders" from the 90s, brilliant scifi series, yes some of the special effects are pretty low budget and very dated by today's standards. But unusually for a scifi show, the effects are secondary, compared with the connection to the characters and the different storylines for each episode.

One I'd almost forgotten about, but do remember enjoying it when it was on now that you mention it. Not sure I finished the whole series or remembered what happened at the end. From Wiki, it seemed like most of the original cast had left before the end and it wasn't as good as it was when it started. Probably one that would be ripe for a reboot/remake to try to recapture how good it was at the start.

Season 3 was the beginning of the end when Prof Arturo got killed off half way through, 4 is watchable mostly and Mallory left at the end, making the final season 5 dire which nobody watched since there was only 1 original character left, even he couldn't save it.

Didn't exactly whiff the landing, but didn't really stick it either. It's over now, so we can all move on. Decent enough ending IMO. Agreed it was stretched longer than necessary, but I think 4 seasons would have been the sweet spot. Just glad they didn't try and spin it out for another few years as I definitely would have lost interest. Spoiler I wasn't expecting the feels punch after Frenchie died in the previous episode. It's not a series you really expect to get emotional about but Kimiko's sobbing almost had me in tears myself. Great bit of acting by Karen Fukahara.

Tommy Brown Posted May 23 Posted May 23 Black Work (ITVx) This has just been added to the app, it's from 2015 and has Sheridan Smith in the lead role as a wife of undercover cop who is murdered. Only 3x one hour episodes. Worth the watch.
PortyJambo Posted May 24 Posted May 24 I've not finished it yet as was waiting to binge the whole season, but I'm still enjoying The Boys. It's got a bit obvious in its targets and satire, and it's probably a good time to finish it, but still one of the better shows of the last few years. Not sure whether I'll watch the prequel series 'Vought Rising' that is next up in 2027 on Prime...."Bollocks!", who am I kidding, I know I will when it is released
Heartofhearts Posted May 24 Posted May 24 If you want even more football drama then ' Dear England' about Gareth Southgate is on BBC 1 9pm tonight. 4 episodes but not available on IPlayer in advance. Will take a look later.
Dick Dastardly Posted May 24 Posted May 24 Not much that i fancy watching just now so I've started rewatching Firefly. I really wish there had been at least a couple more series of this as it's absolutely brilliant. One of my favourite scify programmes of all time.
ericb Posted May 25 Posted May 25 Legends was good, not great, went a bit OTT. Half Man is genius, how he makes you watch this stuff is gripping. Better than Baby Reindeer.

John Findlay Posted May 28 Posted May 28 Watching Believe me on the STV player. Not a nice subject matter, the sexual assault/rape of several women by a driver of Black cabs in London. Daniel Mays plays the cab driver and has no redeeming features at all. Aimme-Ffion Edwards(Esme Shelby from peaky blinders) plays his first victim. Based on a true story. It's not sexually explicit, doesn't have to be. Gets the story across very well.

I’m watching it in black and white but not enjoying the contrast and balance of the image. So out of interest I had a look at the colour version as I was watching episode 1. It’s horrible and over saturated like a pastiche of Technicolor. So by being clever they’ve come up with 2 ways to watch, neither of which are totally up to scratch.

It's like someone described what it should look like instead of actually seeing it for themselves

Not sure whether I'll watch the prequel series 'Vought Rising' that is next up in 2027 on Prime...."Bollocks!", who am I kidding, I know I will when it is released Finished the last season of The Boys a couple of nights ago. Kind of glad it's over. As a whole it was a great show, but they didn't fully stick the landing IMO, although it wasn't GoT bad. It wasn't terrible and some bits were satisfying and the show at its best, but a few clunky bits too. One character got far too much time in the last season without it really going anywhere. And I have to say that the gore and disgusting ways of dying got boring for me, kind of "if you've seen one arsehole explode, you've seen them all". Funnily enough, one of the least important (to the story) bits that annoyed me almost the most (and it's not really a spoiler as such) was Kimiko getting her voice. No need for it really, and it just didn't add anything. Her continuing to only converse in sign language would have been fine. Her American accent was annoying and jarring too.
Heartofhearts Posted May 30 Posted May 30 Half Man BBC I Player 6 episodes. Has anyone else watched this? I stuck with it as felt compelled to watch the weekly episodes. Very uncomfortable and violent viewing. Visceral scenes with an unexpected ending. Preferred Baby Reindeer. Wonder what Richard Gadd will do next.

Just watched the last episode and came here to post about it. Thought it was brilliant, we were absolutely on edge through it all wondering what was going to kick off next. Richard Gadds Edinburgh Festival shows were absolutely tragic, his 2 series have been top class writing 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Wonder what Richard Gadd will do next. Yes I watched it . I think it was all over the place at times with the narrative . .However I felt the acting was a good standard and the scene in the prison at the final episode was riveting . Even though the Ruben character was insane I felt more empathy and sympathy for him than Niall . At least with Ruben you knew exactly where u were with him . However manic and dangerous his behaviour was. At least it was there , right in front of you to deal with . Niall was quite secretive and deceptive . I suppose that’s cause he was in the closet for most of the show . Spoiler I was genuinely surprised when Ruben said his dad had abused him . I assumed that his issues stemmed from being in the closet , and his responses to it were the polar opposite of Niall in dealing with it. However I think that last scene was open to interpretation about Reuben did feel about Niall . I assumed the title of “ half man “ was in regards to either of their homosexuality . However I know from reading that many male sexual abuse survivors feel that their “ masculinity “ has been stolen from them due to being sexually abused . The title could apply to either as some people still feel gay men are “ half men “ . Maybe that was Gadds intention. The ending is open to whatever one wants to interpret it as .
Dick Dastardly Posted June 2 Posted June 2 Just watched the first episode of Tip Toe starring Alan Cumming and David Morrisey. Looks like it might be pretty good.
scott herbertson Posted June 3 Posted June 3 Really enjoyed Blanca [Channel 4: World Drama] an Italian mystery series with a blind female detective I thought I was going to dislike it for a couple of reasons (the actress isn't blind , the filming seemed mannered and a bit of a rip off of Bond/ 60s spy thriller) but after the first part I was hooked. The back story is very good and compelling and the filming really grew on me - the use of colour is amazing. Worth a watch in my opinion
Cade Posted June 3 Posted June 3 The Beatles: Get Back 3-part, 8-hour documentary spliced together from dozens of hours of original historic footage charting the creation of The Beatle's final studio album "Let It Be". Watching those songs being born in real time is astonishing.
1953 Posted June 4 Posted June 4 Just finished watching The Pitt on HBO. Excellent if you like gritty hospital dramas.
Tommy Brown Posted June 4 Posted June 4 The Vardys (ITVX) 3x 1 hr episodes. I've enjoyed it as I've always been huge Vardys fan. 3rd episode tonight. Most of 2 & 3 are him at Cremonese. But on ITVx to see all three. And aye, if I was Del, I would want to offer him a one year deal, even at 39.

JudyJudyJudy Posted June 10 Posted June 10 “ tip toe “ i took one for the team ( my gay advocacy group) and watched it to report back to them . I’ll not go into loads of details but it was just as awful as I predicated it might be ( A gay adolescence “). Only redeeming thing in it was a fine performance from David Morrisey who managed to bring to life a hostile and offensive stereotype of a “ working class straight male ( the new villain in dramas ). He added great nuance to the character which is quite remarkable as it was so cliched .
