Fantastic programme, with regard to the friendship between Two men who are entering the later stage of their lives. Its a friendship between the Two of them, that money will never be able to buy. Superb television.

Ricky Gervais - Mortality (Netflix)

Brilliant with the expected, unfiltered material.

Rosie Jones, Hitler, being fed to lions, Stephen Hawkins on Epstein Island, Golden Globes and Elton John all make up the content.

8/10  - would have been given an extra point but the show has been edited down to an hour.

Pluribus (Apple TV, 2025)

A darkly comic, satirical sci-fi tale, very much in the vein of Black Mirror.

When scientists discover that a signal from deep space appears to be a genetic code, they synthesise and experiment with it.

Obviously, the virus escapes the lab and converts almost all of humanity into a single hive mind.

Carol, one of only a dozen people on Earth unaffected, struggles to understand the new world and plots to somehow restore individuality to the human race.

7 episodes so far in this first season with two more on the way before the end of the year.

Good fun.

Didn’t think this was going to be for me after the first episode but gave the next couple a bash after reading this.  Fair enjoying it now - Cheers

Loved Pluribus but glad I binge watched the whole season rather than watching week to week. Like Gilligan's previous shows, there were some episodes where not a lot happened. Still entertaining though they were, it would have frustrated me if I couldn't go straight to the next episode.

Looking forward to the next season and where it might go. Don't think it'll be obvious one way or another! So many themes covered in the show, loneliness, grief, individuality, happiness and what it means, etc, etc.

It's a slow burn alright.

But the world building is what the show is really all about, not a great deal of plot in this first season.

It has some interesting concepts and observations.

Is it a comment on the homogenising effect of the Internet?
Or perhaps a critique of communism (the mass starvation bit was an obvious point here)?
Or is it illustrating what would happen if everybody communicated properly to eliminate armed conflicts?
The dangers of groupthink, cult behaviour, mass propaganda, out of control science, they're all here.
It could even be a critique of AI, since art and sport no longer have any meaning. As soon as anyone thinks of a new idea everybody knows it so no point in making the music or painting the picture, everybody can already visualise it so art is now dead.

Lots of concepts and comments/critiques layered up in this show.

Not much is grabbing me at the moment (until Fallout s2 finishes airing and I can blitz it), so I've restarted on Narcos (Netflix).

It seems I've got a terrible memory, as I barely remember any of it, and it's pretty much like watching it for the first time. Great show.

Prisoner 951 (BBCi)

Excellent 4 part drama doc on the imprisoning of Nazanin Radcliffe in Iran.

Married to an Englishman, she goes back to Iran with her toddler daughter to visit her family.

Gets used by Iran as a political pawn to get a long standing debt owed by UK.

Really well done.

Best series i have seen for ages

The Bombing of Pan Am 103 (BBCi)

Recorded it in May, but was so close to having watched the Netflix series on it.

I felt there was nothing new to see

Just watched the 6 episodes now, absolutely excellent, BBC do another terrific job more aimed at the investigation and subsequent local support given to the victims families.

Anyone else watched Lynley on BBC yet?

Just finished the 1at episode, was quote a decent watch. Good story. I'll probably have blitzed all 4 episodes by the weekend.

To Catch A Killer (Channel 4).

A Turkish man goes missing. Essex Police believe he's been murdered and dumped. They face a time-pressured case to find the body for CPS to approve charges.

A very compelling watch with revealing CCTV footage.

Second season of Red Eye on ITV, Red Eye - Crimson Icarus. Martin Compston turns up, as he does so often these days, as the co-lead for this season.

It's switch your brain off entertainment, not going to win any awards but watchable. 6/10

Watched the first couple of episodes earlier. You really do have to stop yourself thinking, really?? Like an intruder would walk straight into the US Ambassador's office and have enough time to call MI5 advising of a bomb threat:huh:. It's all meant to kick off at Heathrow but there's a Ryanair plane sitting on the tarmac:facepalm:

A Netflix K-drama, folks with superpowers, but don’t want to say any more than that. Enjoyed it, although I am a bit of a fanboy of Korean movies and tv shows. Definitely worth a watch

Fallout (Amazon Prime) Season Two is just as good as the first season was. Really nails the look, the sound and the feel of the games (especially Fallout 4). Excellent stuff.

I do recommend Red Eye. 6 episodes and first 4 are a wild ride.

Better editing and taking out 2 or 3 of the wilder plot twists which were unnecessary could have made it a great.

His & Hers on Netflix. Tense murder mystery set in rural Georgia (the American one). Good cast and a storyline full of twists and turns up to the very end. A tight 6 episodes long which is nice as Netflix normally overstretches things for no good reason.

Been watching Parish on Netflix, starring Giancarlo Esposito. It was cancelled after one season by the original broadcasters, AMC, but then picked up by Netflix to show and has supposedly done well in the viewing charts on that platform, so small chance they pick it up for another season.

Decent watch, but nothing really that original in the predictable storyline about an ex-criminal in New Orleans who ends up back in the "game" and whose family is then put at risk. It's a remake of a BBC show that I don't recall at all called The Driver.

Gets a 6.5/10 from me, but at least a point of that is for Esposito, who makes it a better show than it probably is.

Quite enjoying Girl Taken on Netflix. Alfie Allen stars as teacher accused of kidnapping one of twins. Won't say anything else for plot reasons.

Ruth Jones is quite impressive in Run Away (Netflix). Totally crazy and incomprehensible mostly till last couple of episodes but decent drama if a little convoluted and twist upon twist.

Minnie Driver and James Nesbitt are very, very good in it too.

Finished this and it’s a “splendid wheeze”. Only 3 episode of an hour each and it whizzes by.

It was ages ago it was on, but I recorded it at the time and finally got around to watching the latest adaptation of Rebus from BBC Scotland. The fact I've taken so long to watch it probably gives you an idea of my expectations...

It was decent though and they got some things right (like him being a Hearts fan for instance!), but the acting wasn't the best by many of the cast, including by the guy playing Rebus. I see it's been renewed for a 2nd season, so may be worth watching if anyone hasn't seen it yet.

Ken Stott still remains the best to play Rebus and getting the character closest to how he is in the books, even though his show suffered from too many other changes to the source material (including him being a Hibs fan :censored:).

Richard Rankine playing Rebus.

I thought he looked to young for the role. The story was for me a mishmash of several books put together. Some of it worked some of it didnt for me.

If you haven't read the books I think it would be easier just to take it at face value.

As you say it was a mix of several books with characters appearing outside their original timeliness.

On the whole it was quite enjoyable though.

By the way Rebus isn't a Hearts fan in the books. The way I read them he'd lean that way rather than Hibs but wasn't a fan as such.

I didn't mind he was young or that they mixed a few books together, to be honest. There's been so many Rebus books, he's gone from fairly young to pension age in them, so I didn't have a problem with a "reboot" starting off with him fairly young.

Yeah, after typing that I thought about changing it as he's not really a Hearts fan as much as Siobhan is a Hibs fan, but he does lean that way as you say.
