Dogecoin

Following the rise of other crypto-currency like Bitcoin, Dogecoin is the newest one to come out.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dogecoin

Stuck a 10er into it, could be worth it, might not.

My mate put in the same amount yesterday and it's already doubled, so worth a pop I reckon.

dogecoin-proves-its-worth-generosity-kindness.jpg?w=500&h=296&l=50&t=40

"Dogecoin, the meme-based cryptocurrency, continues its inexorable rise "to the moon" becoming the third most valuable cryptocurrency in the world after a Chinese exchange began trading the coins for yuan.

Dogecoin is just two months old, yet in that time the cryptocurrency which started out life as something of a joke rose to briefly become the world's third most valuable (mineable) cryptocurrency - rising some $40 million (?24.2m) in value in the last 48 hours alone to over $90m.

At the time of publication dogecoin had slipped back below peercoin in terms of overall value, but considering dogecoin is rising and peercoin is falling, it is likely we will see the situation change again in the next 24 hours.

While the website coinmarketcap.com lists dogeconi as number four behind bitcoin, ripple and litecoin in terms of mineable cryptocurrencies we can discount ripple as only a tiny fraction of that currency is available to the public.

Chinese yuan exchange opens

While there doesn't seem to be any single reason for the spike in value, one of the main drivers is likely to be the fact that Chinese exchange Bter.com has added dogecoin to its list of currencies meaning it can now be traded directly for Chinese yuan.

This follows the last month's announcement by Canadian-based exchange Vault of Satoshi that it would begin trading dogecoin for US and Canadian dollars.

As well as opening up the cryptocurrency to people not interested in mining it, the more exchanges which accept dogecoin in return for fiat currencies the more dogecion will weaken its dependency on bitcoin.

This could be the reason that dogecoin's value has soared in recent days despite huge turmoil in the bitcoin markets."

Rand Paul's Ray Bans

On the crypto-currency theme, one specifically for Iceland will launch next month: http://motherboard.vice.com/blog/in-one-month-everyone-in-iceland-will-own-cryptocurrency

Basically, half the currency is already mined, and it all will be handed out (for free) to every Icelander, to do with as they please.

Tried to buy, after creating a wallet, and when I put in the address to send coins to it keeps telling me that it is not a Dogecoin address.

Did you click receive? Then add new address?

If so just try generate a new address again and try that one

Aye, checked and double checked that it is correct (can't copy and paste it on my phone). I notice the wallet site isn't taking orders.

I download DogCoine Wallet from here

And then got the address from there to copy and past onto the dogvault website.

Had the coins in my wallet within an hour of confirming my purchase.

The program took ages to sync with the previous 9 weeks transactions however it all worked in the end.

I'm going to download this now and transfer it from the online account to here.

Too much risk of the online wallet getting hacked

Not that i have any interest of doing it myself but how does the mining process work?

Do you download a client on your computer and let it run.. or is it a bit more complicated than that?

gonna get involved in this too, would imagine it'll be easy to make a little bit of money in the early days as there will be a lot of people out there buying in hoping it will hit the same heights as bitcoin, doubtful that it will though, who knows, better than sticking it in the bookies

Can someone explain how the process of selling doge / bit coins work.

Is it fully dependant on another person buying your coins off you? or can you sell to a middle man/broker at any point and they will then sell them on

for windows...

Downoad the wallet client(the program that handles your transactions) here...

unzip the foler thats just downloaded then run dogecoin-qt.exe

the program may then take a couple of hours to sync with the dogecoin network.

once synced click on the "Much receive" button, you will then see a list of addresses(well one for now until you create more) the will just look like a random bunch of letters & numbers (you can give them a suitable label if you want, helps with tracking transaction) copy one of the addresses then head over to

https://bittylicious.com/

paste the dogecoin address into the relevant field and the do the same with email address, enter the amount of dogecoins to purchase and hit "get some coins"

the next page to show up will give you the bank details of where to send your money to in order to receive dogecoins. Make sure you add the reference to your bank transfer.

if done correcty you should receive your dogecoins within 10 minutes of the transfer - these should now be visible in the dogecoin wallet.

If this has helped anyone please feel free to send me some coins at
