Leeds United takeover and Leeds sack manager

McDermott gone.......great timing from the owners.

Massimo Cellino, the owner of Italian club Cagliari, is close to an agreement to buy a stake in Leeds, believed to be about 75%, BBC Radio Leeds reports.

Managing director David Haigh announced on Thursday that his consortium's bid for the club had collapsed because of a lack of funds

Cellino is reported to be keen to replace manager Brian McDermott with former Middlesbrough defender Gianluca Festa.

Bizarre turn of events. Ross McCormack phone Sky Sports News and in a number of words retracts his earlier statement.

MCDermott has been treated very badly by the club this week. How a convicted fraudster like Cellino can pass the football league's "fit & proper person test" is beyond me.

The pantomime at Elland Road continues.

Sad news. The club has been run like a sweetie shop for about 20 years. The fans deserve better than this.

Does this remind anyone of another club in similar distress?

He may not pass the test as it has still to be applied.......indeed there is no confirmation the deal has gone through and it will be subject to approval from the FA/Football League

I agree there is no confirmation that the deal has gone through, that said Phil Hay at the YEP and Adam Pope at BBC Radio Leeds seem to believe it's a done deal (if Cellino or a person acting on his behalf is declared as the owner is another matter).

I'm not an expert on the fit and proper persons test but my understanding is that a new owner would have to pass the football league test only and not an FA one, I think the Football League fit and proper person test is a self certification job.

Apparently fans turned up at Elland Road tonight to question the clubs prospective new owner, it doesn't seem to have gone well & if twitter reports are to believed ended with him being chased round the West Stand Car Park by fans and him needing a Police Escort to leave Elland Road. Some photos below of the aftermath, time for bed Huddersfield tomorrow

Is this a fact or an opinion?

Not having a go & I suspect you are correct but if you have info that backs this claim up I'd be interested to see it.

Tonight the Manager has gone along with the Chief Executive and the Managing Director, no doubt in my mind that the balance of power has shifted. Not official just yet but if you check the clubs official website the front page still announces that "Leeds Boss Brian McDermott is focused on the Huddersfield Game", no mention of the other comings and goings either.

In terms of latest info the club is following not leading.

On the fit & proper person test, the league's policy is to accept self certification, do you think that might be a problem considering Cellino is a convicted fraudster?

As far as I can make out Cellino hasn't bought the shares yet so has no say in the running of the club. This being said how can he sack anyone at the club?

Totally agree however everyone's running with the story that he's gone.

Will be interesting to see if he's in the dug out!

a host of Italian loanees being drafted in as replacements ala Watford.

According to Sky Sports / Cagliari, one in on loan.

http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/12040/9145059/transfer-news-leeds-united-sign-midfielder-andrea-tabanelli-on-loan-claims-cagliari

Cagliari midfielder Andrea Tabanelli has been loaned to Leeds United, according to the Italian club.

The Serie A club is owned by Massimo Cellino, Leeds' prospective new owner who sacked manager Brian McDermott on a dramatic deadline day.

And in a first sign of a link-up between the two clubs, a statement on the Cagliari website said Tabanelli had been sent to Elland Road.

The player, who turns 24 on Sunday, moved to Cagliari only last month after spending the first half of the season with Serie B club Cesena.

If Sporting Intelligence are correct Cellino isn't officially the owner but is in a position to sack the manager, doesn't sound right to me.

What a shambles, BBC Radio Leeds Adam Pope says that 2 hours before kick off club staff don't know who is running the club, CEO Paul Hunt who was sacked last night may have been reinstated this morning.

https://twitter.com/APOPEY

The club staff are in the dark but trying their best to keep us informed. 2 hours before kick off no one is sure who is running club.

I am hearing that Acting CEO Paul Hunt may have been reinstated at the club having been sacked last night.

Hearing Nigel Gibbs will take charge of team affairs with Neil Redfearn although it is unclear as to whether Festa still might

Should be an interesting afternoon at LS11 today.

It's a right circus at Elland Road, but we can hopefully shed a bit more light on the situation at Leeds.

The club have just released a statement confirming that it has agreed to sell 75% of the club to Eleonora Sport Ltd, a company owned by the Cellino family.

The statement also says that "since the agreement, Leeds United is in discussion with Elenora Sport Ltd. on a number of issues concerning club matters including the structure of the management of the first team."

So that seems to clear that up. Until you hear from BBC Leeds' Adam Pope, who says that managing director David Haigh - who stepped down last night - is back at the club today and wants to reinstate Brian McDermott.

Zal knows how to pick a club, doesn't he? He should have played a game or two at Rangers, then he'd have a trio of financial basket cases on his CV...

May we see Pinilla at Elland Road as part of this link-up (if it goes ahead)?

Aye, if we keep kidding on that Serie A is still a major league of that quality. Which sadly, it isn't and nor is Pinilla "PL class". I'd fancy the top 3 of the English Championship against all of the bottom 10 of Serie A.

Enjoyed that. Don't know how we weren't 3 down at half time but a scrappy goal changed the game.

2nd half commitment was outstanding as Huddersfield capitulated. MOT

Oh.. 5-1!

So who picked the team today?

Neil Redfearn, development coach and previous caretaker. Reports suggest nobody knew who was in charge at 1350 though reports can be exaggerated. Messy is not a word that does this justice

Same here although I'm not sure if Leeds got better or Huddersfield were rubbish.

Zal has been dropped since the SWFC game, didn't make the bench today.
