Really good piece on Hearts Standard comparing us this season to the sheep last season.  Particularly interesting were the trend line graphs for the first 11 games, which showed Aberdeen's xG trending downwards and xG conceded trending upwards to the point they were almost converging.  Whereas ours are trending in the opposite direction and the gap between xG and xG conceded is widening.

It was a good piece, and it all but put to bed the argument that we are just a carbon copy of aberdeen from last year. Now, obviously there is no guarantee that the trendlines will continue moving in the direction that they currently are, but it does show that whilst we may have similar a points tally, the overall performance metrics are not at all similar, and neither are the situations:

Personally, I'd be looking at a very small number of things:

1. Games played -- this indicates, in my opinion, the confidence a club and manager has in a player.
2. Injury rate -- The aim is to avoid signing players who are always injured.
3. Eye test. (Quick/instant ball-control, balance, body positioning, movement/availability for a pass, awareness, a "look of strength")

Conversely, indicators such as weight room strength/lifting numbers and sprint speeds would not be high on my agenda. They don't, in my opinion, translate to on-field performance on match days.

Controversially, I also feel height is an over-rated metric. If you are tall, but are very technically limited, you will still find yourself in bother and under pressure on the pitch.
