Shanks said no

I always thought so but still remember when he was found guilty and I mentioned it to a local from there. He very straight faced said "Mitchell didn't do it" but would say no more.

Beggars belief that 100 forensic samples weren't tested at the time of the trial. Wether Mitchell is guilty or not, the whole case was definately not L&B's police's finest hour.

For some reason I'm not entirely convinced that Mitchell was guilty.

Me either tbh, no doubting that Mitchell is a horrible human being but I still have difficulty in believing that a 14/15 yr old boy could carry out such a brutal murder and yet leave not a scrap of physical evidence. That may of course had more to do with the competency of Lothian and Borders finest than the guilty party being a master criminal!

Well that's good enough for me. Let him out ASAP.

The case was handled very badly by L&B. Crime scene left uncovered overnight allowing rain to wash away any forensic evidence, allowing the council to empty the bins even though the murder weapon was never found.

Not sure what to make of this one. I find the fact that he found the body a bit too coincidental though. And given that stranger murders are very rare I can see why the police focused on him.

But look at that case on the news the other day when the boyfriend served time for murder and he was innocent.

Will be interesting to see how it develops.

I've often wondered is it conceivable that he had already found the body, after all she was going to meet him, he got scared thinking "**** I'm getting the blame for this" and so decided to "find" the body later when he was with other people.

I've never really spent a lot of time looking over the claimed evidence and stories from all on this case but if L&B didnt do their job an more evidence has either come to light or needs checked then it should be.

Just cause you're a strange cookie doesnt make you a murderer look at that weird landlord who everyone said was guilty as a very basic example.

If he is guilty though then he deserves to rot.

I've always, for no real reason, been convinced it wasn't him. Will be quite a smug moment for me when he's found innocent.

Who keeps a ******* knife with "JJ 1989-2003" inscribed on it?

Would you really do that if your girlfriend was mutilated?

Abhorrent human being.

His mum came on here trying to defend him? That's must have been an event and a half. Sad to have missed it.

Court found him guilty so unless someone says otherwise, guilty.

A family member worked the case and told me that he was absolutely sure he did it. Yes I know that means nothing.

Went to Dalkeith high not long after it happened, Jodi was 2 years older than me and both her and Luke had near enough the same mates.

Half were convinced he done it, half weren't.

Splendid, an opportunity for our resident forensic and legal experts to shine once more.

Always ends up a real car crash and amusing all the same.

But the locality of this is too close and personal to many on here to be taken lightly (so please be thoughtful in your posts)

Always thought a young boy turned killer without a shred of evidence was uncomfortable. I really wish it could be proven.

The circumstantial eveidence was certainly pointing at him.

Back in the 90's there was an English schoolgirl brutally murdered in france on a school trip in her hotel.

The killer wascaught about 10 years later, a tramp with no connections or motive whatsoever (so it can happen).

I wasn't on the jury.

I don't know all the facts.

What I do know: they look schemy as ****.

Throw away the key!

In regards to someone coming on. Wasn't links provided to a fourm about this and other cases?

Yep some woman who fights injustice in the Scottish legal system, turned out she wasn't even a qualified lawyer despite some of the wording leading you to believe she was.

I especially enjoy reading people with no legal qualifications or experience whatsoever dismiss the value of circumstantial evidence.

Seen with Jodie at 4:55.

Seen on his own at 5:30.

Claims to be in his house. Brother smashes that alibi.

Jodie didnt show so he just went off with his mates instead?

Obsessed with knifes. History of getting high. Inscribed JJ 1989-2003 on a knife.

A knife of his is still missing, only the pouch was found.

Stories of burning in the garden that night.

He's innocent though. Seems legit man.

DNA testing should nail it once and for all.

Not sure why there should be any objection to find out the truth.

Probably because his family won't accept the findings if they go against him

Was this before or after she was killed? Genuine question.

That's some pretty strong circumstantial evidence to be fair. Especially the knives.

Odds of someone else committing the murder must be very high.
