with o'sullivan being out of the game for so long and not playing competitive snooker will hamper his chances and could see him going out in the first three rounds

Graeme Dott v Peter Ebdon, exciting tie that one!

Ebdon's career is in the wrong era. He would've been more successful playing late 70's early 80's with the rest of the bores - Griffiths, Thorburn and Davis to name but three

Sergio Garcia

My predictions for the semi final line up with Ali Carter knocking out the rocket then immediately falling to the Wizard of Wishaw.

John Higgins v Judd Trump

Neil Robertson v Mark Allen

Final between Higgins and Allen with the Northern Irishman winning his first World Championships.

In all seriousness, I think it's ridiculously close between Selby, Trump and Robertson. Title's between them IMO, however much O'Sullivan, Higgins and Ding are capable of giving them a run for their money.

But between those three, it's practically a coin flip. I just nudge towards Robertson because I think he's a superb matchplayer - and a much better player than when he won this title in a strange Championship three years ago. Selby, meanwhile, the player I'd most like to see win it, just can't seem to get it done at Sheffield, and always ends up coming a-cropper in a close one. Then there's Trump: capable of destroying anyone, but you have to sweat blood to win the World Championship, and I'm still not quite convinced he's able to do that.

If Trump does win it, snooker would more than likely enter a new era, with him as its new standard bearer. I'll stick with Robbo though.

He won the world championship. I doubt he would have had he played then.

And Thorburn, for all he was a slow player, went foe his shots.

But so does Ebdon. That's where he's always been misunderstood. Under pressure, he's one of the ballsiest snooker players there's ever been - and I think he's the only player ever to win the title by winning the semi and final both in a final frame decider, the latter against The Greatest himself, Mr Hendry.

I think that Selby or Robertson will do it this year. Ronnie has not played enough competitive snooker and Trump has been quite inconsistent when I've seen him.

No Alain Robidoux? Is he still in the huff cos Ronnie O'Sullivan got bored kicking his ass and started playing left handed?

He won it by grinding out results and wearing his opponent down. Just like the Thorburn's of this world did back then.

That's a fair point actually.

I agree about Ebdon being one of the ballsiest players there's ever been - but by Christ he's painful to watch

I don't believe Dechewat Poimjaeng would've made it out of Bathgate Academy with that name.

Robertson would be my bet but wouldn't rule out Higgins or O'Sullivan

I would never count out Higgins although he's been poor recently he always seems to dig out performances at tis tournament.

IMO O'Sullivan ability I seriously don't think missing most of the season will stop him only thing that will is which mentality will he bring with him.

I didn't even know McManus was still playing. Can't see him beating Junhui though unfortunately.

First time McManus has qualified for The Crucible in years.

42 now so this may well be his last Championship

Couldn't resist the 7/1 on offer from Skybet for Judd Trump, so lumped 30 sheets on him.

Opposite side of the draw to my other bet, so a Trump / Selby final will do for me.

Slipping down faster than Katie Price's knickers

All starts tomorrow - Rocket Ronnie starts his defence. Will his rocket be rusty ?

Sounds like tickets are selling well according to Barry Hearn in that link

I went down there a couple of years ago and got a seat that could see both tables. It was a god send as Rory McLeod was boring the pants off people in his match against Ricky Walden. The ref had to take them off as it would have run in to the afternoon session.

Nice wee theatre like

Looks like these two will have to come back tonight after the scheduled evening session to finish this off.

If that is the case and they start to burn the midnight oil at least some good could come out of it.

A cure for insomniacs.

No guarantee they will finish tonight either - could put it back to Tuesday !!

This just gives the likes of Barry Hearn ammunition to introduce putting the clock on players at the World Championships.

Not seen him this year - but the guy with the Coventry tops is still there sat in the corner of the bottom row as usual.

Watch him change to wearing the England top tomorrow (St George's Day)

7-7 between Maguire and Poomjaeng. Hope Poomjaeng wins. He had to come through four qualifying rounds just to reach the first round. Never been keen on Maguire.

They'll have to come back later tonight to finish it off - looks like Poomjaeng will be 9-8 up going into that extra session.
