Can you name the 10 clubs that have played in the Champs League (group stage proper) but no longer play in their own country's top flight?

[since the European Cup changed its name to the UEFA Champions League in 1992].

Vigo and Nantes, yes. Sampdoria's unlucky, coz they do play in Serie B, and reached the final in 92. But it was rebranded the champs league the following season - 92-93.

5 left.

Boavista, well played.

Boavista are the only team on the list to now play in the 3rd division.

Torino? Liverno?

Nope. Torino would be in there if it was pre-92 as well.

Frankfurt?

Lens?

Lens or metz?

Lens, yes, correct. Metz got knocked out in the qualifying round to a Finnish side. I only know this coz I was living there at the time, and the town went into mourning...

Nah, that was Bratislava. Or FC Petr?alka 1898, as they're now known. Apparently.

Last one was Unirea Urziceni, who whipped Rangers at Ibrox a couple of years ago.

They were dissolved last summer.

So things could be worse. At least, after our brush with glory vs AEK, we didn't slip down into D3 or cease to exist...
