Zal and Webster were both equally at fault for the goal. However, apart from that both were excellent. Zaliukas in particular was supreb in the first half. A lot of our best play came from him confortably bringing the ball out of defence instead of simply hoofing it up the park.

They've been playing well recently, but the blame for the result today should lie with the midfield trio. They dominated for most of the first half against 5 in midfield, but completely lost control of the game in the second half against 4 for some reason.

My brother was walking through Middelsborough on Friday ( he lives down that way) wearing his Hearts scarf and was approached by Tony Mowbray who said 'haven't seen one of them for a while'. They had a conversation and TM mentioned that he thought that he was going to lose one of his centre backs in the transfer window and was ready to put in a bid of ?1.4 million for Zal if it had happened!

Thunderstruck

What was noticeable at the start of the second half - when they came out and got a head of steam up- was that it was Zal who was doing the reorganising on the fly and sorting out who was picking up which opponent. It took a few minutes to get things back on a even keel and the contest was moved further up the park.

That Sandaza was rarely in the game was down to the marking of the two centre-backs - they kept him under under close control. It was noticeable that his one moment of skill was when he dropped back to cover the free kick and got space and time to work with the ricochet off Mehdi.
