Lotus' looking pretty strong.

Cannae believe I set my alarm for half 6 in order that I could get up to watch frigging qualifying

Hamilton leads McLaren 1-2. 3rd for Schumacher is excellent. Vettel languishing in 6th.

EDIT - forgot that Kimi had a grid penalty - Vettel will be 5th. Still not great, especially compared to last year.

The midfield times are really close.

Should make for an excellent race. Especially since Kobiyashi is starting 16th.

Massa is struggling.

My predictions look a bit off again.

Which is odd as I'm a self confessed expert on F1.

I'm gonna keep going with my weekly predictions of Alonso for most places gained though.

I've been up for an hour thinking the race was going to start.

Its a lovely day though. Hope the race is a good.

Hope di Resta gets into the points again.

Rain will make it really Intereating especially as it's never light drizzle!

Not from my predictor league pick but I feel this may be Schumi's race!

That's the coverage started.

I'm in Canberra just now so have free live coverage on council telly. I just hope the commentators are decent.

Rain 30km from the circuit apparently.

Looks like it will rain very shortly. Should make things very interesting.

When I was in Oz a few years ago it cut to the BBC when the race was about to start.

I found it odd that Martin Brundle was commentating. I was hoping for something different.

They just said over to Sky coverage but it's the BBC commentators.

EDIT. And they've just apologised and said they got it wrong and they will give us the Sky one in a minute. Jeezo.

The rain will make this interesting. It's not quite a 'Markus Winkelhock race', but there might be some surprises here.

Grosjean can't capitalise on his excellent qualifying results.

As an aside - Hamilton wa pulling mor than a second a lap on the field.. For the life of me I don't know why they do not start that race an hour or 2 earlier.. It rains at approximately the same time every day in Malaysia

The current 1-2 of Alonso and Perez might throw the predictor into disarray.

Still a long way to go of course.

Still has a chance, but that could have been a mistake by Sauber, who probably weren't prepared or this situation.

Still chipping away at Alonso's lead...

Gap under 2 seconds with 8 laps remaining.

Vettel suffers a puncture lapping the HRT.

Alonso takes it by 2 seconds from Perez. Hamilton 3rd.

Excellent race - Perez so unlucky. This could be a very unpredictable year.

Unlucky Perez. I didn't like Saubers lack of ambition though.

The Williams are looking good too. Good to see.

Overall it is very competitive this season. Should be a good season ahead.

It sure is.

I hope we get a few surprise winners this year. Perez and di Resta would be great.

What a welt Vettel is. The car he overtook held the line, Vettel turned across him too early, clipped his wing and got a puncture.

Totally his fault and he calls him a idiot. Prick.

He's a bit out of order, but I can see where he's coming from. Karthikayen shouldn't be making it complicated to be lapped, and the HRT's probably shouldn't be on the track.

Vettel passed him, then turned in too early.

Whether or not Karthakayen should have made it easier for him to pass is irrelevant. Vettel had passed, and made a basic, basic error.

I agree with your point about the HRT's, but Vettel needs to learn to admit when he's in the wrong. He's done it before, and like Hamilton when everything's going for them they are the nicest guys going. But when things go badly, even when it's their fault they act like petulant children. I far prefer Button and Webber who maybe aren't as talented but can at least admit when they are at fault.

Excellent to see Di Resta picking up points again and showing that he is a great driver. Clearly one of the bigger teams will be after him if he keeps this up, maybe even Sauber ;)
