Robot Wars

Is anyone else still a fan of Robot Wars from a few years back?

I remember watching every week on the BBC and Five and I'm just wondering if anyone else still watches the repeats on Dave? There seems to be quite a large support behind it on the internet for it to be brought back.

Razer and Hypnodisc are my favourites, just a pity they never fought each other, it would have been like Barcalona vs Spain.

(You could skip to 1:40, and RazerBlade isn't the same as Razer.)

Everytime i hear that commentator on the BBC it takes me back to his Robot Wars days.

I did watch it, but i was pretty young to be fair. Every dude that went on it seemed to be a complete gimp with no social life, and normally they dragged along their geeky son for the ride!

  • 5 years later...

Hypnodisc was the most destructive I've seen but that was when the opposition were made of wood, aluminium and plastic

The most destructive robot I've ever seen was Fluffy. Hypnodisc and Razor coming close second but that carbide was a real piece of work.

Eh?.....what?......

Storm 2 fought typhoon 2 to become champion. Storm 2 was cheated out the win by the producers who didnt want another box robot to win. The judges later found out and wrote letters of apology to the storm 2 team.

i really liked the design of pulsar, the spinning disks on it being at 90 degrees to what you normally see. if they had sorted their drive out i think we would see some serious chaos if them and carbide were fully up to speed and went at each other

Kitchen might've watched the US version BattleBots when he was wee. Looks a bit crazier with more robots just endlessly beating the shit out of each other:

Anyways, delighted a new series is back. Haven't seen any of it yet as I'm not in the UK and I just haven't found the time but can't wait to see it sometime.

You're too late lol - series finished on Sunday :(

Had to admire the Apollo robot taking out 3 or the 4 house robots - woulda loved to see them try to flip Killalot at some point during the final to get the full house!

Good viewing though, something a wee bit different to the norm. Teams have certainly upped their game in terms of tech and materials used (except the Scottish team who made theirs from MDF of course.......).

I like the new format with the round robin head-to-head round. Forces robots to be durable, teams to be good at running repairs and lets everyone get a go at everyone else.

Atmosphere seems a wee bit stale though and Dara O'Brein may as well not be there at all for all he contributes.

Love to see Craig Charles come back next year (if he's not filming another new series of Red Dwarf for Dave).

I thought the schools went back a few weeks ago, concentrate on your homework, Janet and John won't read themselves.

Least now I can watch it all in one go :) .

Is it still the case that a majority have flippers, and can flip themselves back upright? The last series was pretty repetitive because of it.

it's about 40% flippers, 40% spinners , 10% axes/hammers and 10% comedy joke robots that do shite all
