He’ll be their player until the season ends.

I mean next season, when he is a Hearts player. Hopefully the beginning of the end for st Johnstone ?

Personally,  i think Mclean is a bullshit signing.

I'm not going to lose my shit over it though.

It will be interesting to hear what Levein has to say about him.

Folk freaking out over signing MacLean when the top six games haven't even started yet.

He's hardly going to be our marquee signing this coming window ffs! He looks a good fit to be backup and be more involved in coaching, perhaps starting off with the younger age groups.

No problem with this signing at all. Good pro and gives us an option up front. Adds depth where we are short

Presumably doesn't compromise main summer activity

Cruyff Turn

Again, Stevie Maclean coming on as a sub, filling in for injuries, playing against the lesser sides in league and cup, using his experience to coach the likes of Keena, not a problem, been there, done it, got the t-shirt and he's not exactly going to be on megabucks. Probably a smart signing by CL.

We need 4-5 strikers, Lafferty, Naismith, McLean, another striker and Keena, that would be a superb amount of options.

The biggest problem at Hearts this season has been left back and midfield (central and wide positions). That is where we really need 'marquee' signings.

Yes off days.

You can look back this forum to see Soutter is not always perfect.

That comes with youth.

As they grow with experience you hope for more consistency

We are all missing the bigger picture here

This is absolutely brilliant news

Losing their central focal point striker Maclean, and big reason for their top 6 success, surely now next season will be finally the season we have all been waiting for:

St Johnstone for relegation

:yas:

This is a good point!

Weakening our direct rivals as well - pure Celtic :thumb:

Good trip Saturn. Nae atmosphere though.

Moon joke! Saturn has a massive atmosphere - mainly hydrogen and helium, as well as some methane, ammonia, nitrogen and oxygen.

Hostile atmosphere, certainly - welcome to hell.

Sorry, on topic - MacLean may turn out to be a useful influence (and has scored a good number of goals in his time), but it's safe to say he's not one of our marquee signings. They will happen soon enough.

The Lafferty thing came from a handful of dressed up pansies who actually believed MacLean was a replacement for Lafferty.

It's chronic

It’s been rumoured for a while that hearts weren’t looking to keep Lafferty.  It all started in January.

Was our last big signing from St Johnstone Kenny Aird? I remember him as the big news of the window (though I don't think we had windows then) in the summer of 1972.

This is going to sound daft as it could be anyone.

My Sis-In-law works for a taxi firm at the airport, she spotted Levein and McPhee during the week saying goodbye to a black lad as he got out his taxi.

McPhee in particular gave him a hug and handshake. Maybe someone who's had a look around our premises?

As long as he's not due for retirement or described as a 'good pro' I'll be happy. We have enough aspiring coaches to last us the next half century.

Signing as a mentor to young players or not McLean is not good enough for Hearts. Waste of a wage if he signs and very uninspiring. Would rather have Sammon back.

It was Goncalves coming back to pick up the rest of his luggage after he left in such a hurry.

The scorer of our third goal in the 2012 cup final came from the fairmers, as well as Colin Miller.

Sorry. I have reached the age when I remember things from 40 years ago better than I remember things from 4 minutes ago!

Alex Ferguson (no not that one) was apparently the first signing from St Johnstone (according to London Hearts site) in the 1930s.

Danny Swanson had apparently been released by St Johnstone before we signed him.

The taxi driver had to lower his ramp right enough so he didn't have a big step to take.

Whether or not, presumably one of the nine and one of the six to be signed before the season begins in mid July.

My thoughts too. I'm underwhelmed at signing a guy of his years regardless of whether he's a "back up" or not. But I'm resigned to the fact that if we are going to sign 9 players then this is the level we're shopping at.
