Great Metal Songs

There's a punk thread so we're getting a metal one too!

This song is perfect late 80s / early 90s speed metal, right down to the naked torsos and tight spandex. Intricate, aggressive - just brilliant!

Here's another one of the big four, but from this century. The title track from the last album the classic lineup of Araya, King, Hanneman and Lombardo ever did. Effing magnificent

Orion by Metallica.

Quite understated as a metal song but it is nothing short of absolutely epic.

Seconded, it's also the origin of one of the greatest covers I ever heard by the great pretenders to tenacious D's acoustic throne

In the same way that I feel guilty for really liking "Die by the Sword" on Show no Mercy

However - in the depths of a mind insane, fantasy and reality are the same

Metallica- Four horsemen and One

frankly cannot be arsed with the rest of their stuff

And Megadeth I loved their artwork , but found Mustaine too whiney

Preferred Nuclear Assault for a speed metal fix

Celtic Frost being the only band apart from Megadeth where I wore the Tshirts but didn't like the band- because Celtic Frost used at one point the artist who did the Marshall Law mags- Kevin O'Neill

Most would go for the obvious 80s stuff but I'm going with this off of a very underrated album. Probably only bettered by Hallowed.

I never got Megadeth at the time, I even left a gig before they came on once because I was only there to see pantera.

Then  a few years later I actually listened to Rust In Peace without concentrating on the whine- perfection!

P.s. no one mentioning the Trooper?

also LOVED Aces High- with full Churchill intro ala "Live After Death"

Pantera- used to like them but was persistently confused as to what a "Primal Concrete Sledge " was

Captain cavemans winter transport I reckon.

I'm a huge dave Lombardo fan so I was over the moon when suicidal tendencies put this album out

Me too! loved that album.

THe other album I loved from around that time was S.O.D- Live at the Budokan, I picked up in Bathgate Sunday Market

"Speak English or Die"

though modern scrutiny would not permit such songs as "**** the Middle East"

I don't know if you would truly count them as metal but I will add

Cinderella - nobody's fool

Scorpions - no one like you

Beat me to it. Love Rodrigo y Gabriellas version too.

I love this topic.  Thank you Smithee and the subsequent contributors.

And now for something you may never have heard, which is a pity, but now you will have, so all is well:

Another one that won't have gotten much play over here (never got much in the States, either):

The new incarnations a bit rubbish, and H gets more Partridge every day, but you cannot argue with acid reign in their pomp

At least the new lot do a decent cover!

I LOVED this band as a kid
