Selkirk_Jambo
Actually, that's got me thinking about some excellent albums from great bands which were unfairly considered weak just because they came before or after great ones. Alice in Chains. Would have went for Heaven Beside You but this is a bit more metal Smashing Pumpkins - Machina Any others?
frankblack
Smashing Pumpkins weren't Metal. Soundgarden and Alice In Chains were mostly metal - AIC classes themselves as metal not Grunge.

Hard band to categorise though and they certainly had some metal moments. Applying the same logic though, I would find it hard to put Soundgarden in the metal category. Some heavy songs but mostly grunge and alt rock although a great band overall. One of the things I loved about early 90's was the mixing of genres. Band like the 3 above with Faith No More, Jane's Addiction, Blind Melon et al really loved to mix it up, usually with amazing results.

Soundgarden were heavily influenced by Black Sabbath, which you can hear clearly on a lot of their songs up to and including BadMotorFinger. Screaming Trees were one of my favourites from that era. Maybe we should take this to a new Grunge/Alt Rock thread...

In 7/4... There's lots of different metal of course and I'd include grunge myself, but maybe I should have called the thread heavy rock to avoid any doubt Seeing as we're all enjoying Soundgarden though, here's one from the pre facial hair days, with Chris looking just weird

Cory McNamara
Great Industrial Metal /\ Industrial Death Metal songs; CHAPTER I: Dead World is a little bit forgotten band; mostly a one man band, thanks to Jonathan Canady. Simple atmospheric riffs, nice melodies, bass and a lot of fresh ideas. I like that this band has some interesting dark-ambient tracks too. Cory McNamara
Great Industrial Metal /\ Industrial Death Metal songs; CHAPTER II: One of the best vocal works I have ever heard. Phenomenal vocals and range. Great original songs with prominent and untypical bass lines & extraordinary vocals; thoughtful and colorful guitar, lyrics and drum work. You can find here wonderful jazzy bits too. Cory McNamara
Great Industrial Metal /\ Industrial Death Metal songs; CHAPTER III: Pitchshifter is one of the originators of Industrial Death Metal, it seems they invented the term with their "Industrial Death - A Spill of Sound" 1990 demo and "Death Industrial" 1991 single. This band has absolutely unique lead guitar work, it's so imaginative and powerful - thanks to Johnny A. Carter (lead guitarist, programmer and one of the composers). Monolithic, catchy and crushing riffs, deep death metal vocals and heavy pummeling bass guitar with mechanistic & accented drum parts create a dismal atmosphere. Lead guitar here (mournful & majestic) is from another dimension, there is no any doubt in that. Songs: *******izer (Submit 1992) Catharsis (Industrial 1991) Brutal Cancroid (Industrial 1991) Diable (Desensitized 1993) Additional information: http://www.darklyrics.com/p/pitchshifter.html
Cory McNamara
Great Industrial Metal /\ Industrial Death Metal songs; CHAPTER IV: Devolved is a Technical Industrial Death Metal band, they will eradicate every bit of you with their complex songs and lyrics. The main composer of the band is a drummer, so expect a really fast and sophisticated drum work (thanks to John Sankey). Unique, unorthodox and insanely difficult lyrics should be mentioned; these words and sentences are trying to act with each other in a weird manner, forming a deep meaning. Songs: Devolved - Fractured (Calculated 2010) [Rerecorded version of 2004 album] Devolved - Distorted (Technologies 2001) Devolved - Emergence (Technologies 2001) Additional information: www.darklyrics.com/d/devolved.html ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Fractured Calculated volition Activated defect Negatives expanding Callous innovation Tampering with origin Manipulated symmetry of our impending cataclysm Breach of evolution without tolerance Mechanizing trepidation Stem of vital nerves eradicated Integrated artificial generations Overloaded re-enforcing Neurological derangement Breach of evolution without tolerance Mechanizing trepidation Stem of vital nerves eradicated Instigating Insufficiency of absolution Inner dire visions Global disconnection automated Systematic lethal form inseminates Acceleration of demise Failed human legion Globalizing disconnected Automation Revolution of procreated parasite Breach of evolution without tolerance Mechanizing trepidation Stem of vital nerves eradicated Integrated artificial generations Overloaded re-enforcing Neurological derangement Psychologic scourge Breakdown evolution Fundamental enemies Virtual cage of humanized dissent Distort perception Imposing damage internal Mutated non compliance Agitate unfolding crisis Syncopated deception Deconstruction began long before in us all Agitate compliance of evolution Fundamental enemies Critical impassive deprivation Execrated human imminence Eliminating process of our reconstruction Become the forgotten Global disconnection Automated Revolution of procreated parasite Erosion of the mind Distort perception Imposing damage internal Mutated non compliance Agitate unfolding crisis Syncopated deception
