...and exactly who I wouldn't - not after they sold me two decomposing John Dory a few years back.

There was no excuse for it: either they were so careless over the fish they displayed on their slab that they didn't realise how "elderly" the fish in question were, or they knowingly displayed and sold fish that should've been chucked in the bin several days before. Either way, not the mark of a good fishmonger, never mind one with the apparently great reputation Armstrongs seem to have. They'll never get my custom again.

Hughes at Bruntsfield is a much better fishmonger and alternative to MacPhersons in Gorgie.

funnily enough, I went in for a crab, boy said none left but another one joined in, said we've got one here, opened a cupboard underneath and there was about a half dozen there. getting home I checked it over, gave it a good sniff but with the suspicion in my mind I couldn't really enjoy it. not been in since but one of them died and it was shut, then there was a fire which closed it for a while as well.

there's one near the top of broughton st that's always been fine for me, though anytime I've been in it's been mid afternoon and there's not been a great selection, be near shutting time by then though.

"Something Fishy" - yup, it's not a bad wee shop.

B Wilsons on Gorgie Road was my Great Grans, Grans and then Dad's before it closed about 15 years ago.  MacPhersons at the end of Gorgie Road is my Dad's cousins.  Dying trade unfortunately but always pleased to see their shop is still going.

Pointless post I know.  Nice to see so many people still buy their fish from the fishmonger and not from the supermarket.

jambos are go!

There is a fishmonger within the Loch Fyne Restaurant at Newhaven Harbour and a good fishmonger(Welch?) just along the boardwalk from it.

There is a very good fishmonger at Musselburgh Harbour. There is also a small fishmonger up a wee lane just across the road from the Iceland Supermarket in Juniper Green.

What is the fishmonger in Juniper Green like?

Good but not huge variety. Has one of small fish vans that you see around the west of the city.
