Issues with faulty laptop

Just a quick question for the populous about legal rights returning a laptop.

I bought a laptop from a well known high street retailer, let's call them "Vindaloo", in November 2016. It developed a fault and was in for repair in April this year. The fault has returned and when I took it in this morning and asked for repair or replacement I was informed that if it was repaired three times then they might consider it. After doing a bit of research online it appears under the Consumer Rights Act that since the fault occurred in the first 6 months and still there I have a right for replacement.

Has anyone on here successfully managed to use the act to get a replacement?

I think the issue might be around the fact that it was April and it has taken another 3 months for the fault to reappear? I'm not sure what happens in that case. Probably worth giving CAB a phone.

Out of curiosity though, what is the fault?

The screen started glitching Max Headroom style and the speakers occasionally sound like someone is scrunching a packet of crisps. Last time they just updated the bios and drivers.

Sounds like a HP laptop?

Buying a laptop is like walking through a minefield.

Have you trued complaining to head office and taking it public on twitter?

Companies hate it when you complain on Twitter and often thrive to turn the customer around so they get a satisfied happy customer tweet in return.

As stated above though, if you're struggling yourself I'd try CAB.

You're right, it's an HP Pavilion!

I've put it on Twitter but no response yet, "Vindaloo" just aren't interested.

Also 'madras' are famous for being condescending to their customers.

your quite entitled to use their name in discussion of a problem, the more  unfavourable stories about them can only help your case

Let this be a lesson in itself. HP are best to be avoided. I've had several HP products and they've always let me down. There will no doubt be some good hp computers out there but I've yet to see one.

Just got a brand new Lenovo from Very last week and it keeps crashing. Prob is I'm halfway through my vat return so cant do without a laptop for even a day to return and replace!!

Any good advice on a good solid laptop at less thsn ?300...???

Btw op, just keep at them, companies eventually realise fixing an issue is quicker and cheaper than arguing. Keep asking to escalate it. Take names every phone call. Email a debrief of every phonecall.

HP are absolutely ****ing awful laptops.  Never liked them, and would certainly never recommend them to anybody.

I have to use an Elitebook for work, and it feels like it's made out of recycled plastic takeaway containers.

My girlfriend was looking for a new laptop, and the HP Sales Rep in John Lewis made a big song and dance about how reliable they were.  I offered him a counter argument, demonstrating to him the poor build quality of the keyboard, screen hinges and flexing in the plastic case of the models he was trying to recommend to us.  They are all awful.
