That head that pops out under the boat still freaks me out every time :D

Good actors make the film great alongside the suspense and storyline.

Given the advance in technology we know now the shark can look a bit fake in the scenes it's more exposed, but it will always be a classic movie to me.

Probably my favorite film of all time. Never get bored of it.

Yeah, mine too. Watched it hundreds of times and still gives me the shivers.

Class film. Like the 2nd one too but 3 and 4 are appalling (tbf 4 is quite funny).

I remember being taken to see JAWS3D in the pictures, I was gutted!! 2 is ok but the others, meh!

What do you think a big budget Hollywood remake would be like, worthwhile? I'm a massive fan and I'm aware the remakes never seem to be as good or better than the original, but JAWS?

I remember reading the book when I was maybe 14. First book I ever read that had a sex scene in it. I was on holiday in Rhyl and wasn't keen on going into the sea the whole holiday. (Then again it was Rhyl so it weren't just sharks you needed to worry about. The jobbies and jellyfish can kill you there)

Think it may have been the first A rated film I ever saw too. Great film. Great book too.

I read the book at a similar age.  The description of the remains of the woman swimmer at the start was, well, pretty graphic.

The first film was great, the second not quite so.  I couldn't tell you about any others, I didn't bother with them,

I think the original idea was to show more of the shark but there were mechanical issues with it - hence the reason you never see the shark until the end, which probably made the film the classic it is because it heightened the tension and fear.

I picked the book up at a jumble sale just before boarding a bus to north Berwick.

Stayed on the beach the whole day. Was I **** going swimming.

One of my all time favorites.

Dad took me to see Jaws 2 at the grand age of about 6/7. Love the sea and it's wildlife, but feck going deeper than knee high in any open water after that.

Think the book author Peter Benchley regretted the demonisation of sharks caused by the film and supported conservation programmes thereafter.

A remake would be interesting if they could follow the suspense of the original. Think they'd be too tempted to show off the cgi at every opportunity though. Would also be hard to match the original cast.

Would be difficult to recreate the suspense and acting in the original I think, rather than having the shark look more realistic.

Urgh. Some movies should be immune from remakes. Jaws is one of those. Not only is the film itself iconic but so is the soundtrack, which would be changed in any remake, so it would be a totally pointless effort.

Great film....

However when I read the title I actually thought it was about a race (or is it a religion). [emoji85]

This, great character and Robert Shaw knocked it out the park.

Like a lot of folk above, my favourite film, first novel I ever read after buying it at a car boot sale in the 80's, spent the weekend reading it.

Don't want it remade but there has been a few decent shark films recently, 47 Meters Down was pretty good. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2932536/

Then there is an adaption of Meg being made by Eli Roth with Jason Stratham.  So need for a Hollywood of Jaws.

I think the fact that you didn't really see the shaark until right late on is what makes it scarier. Your imagination is always going to give you something scarier than any image someone else presents. Same with horror films. Geberally go downhill once you properly see the monster. Apart from It. Obviously.

I'd have probably jumped out the boat, right into shark invested water. Like a right tool.

I'd have used the squid defence - $#{?ing myself but hopefully spraying into the sharks eyes and blinding him!

It was not until it was aired on TV that I seen it. I had it in my mind "a lot of shite".

Could not believe the suspense and fright.

Outstanding film when first viewed.

I saw Jaws as a 12yr old at the ABC Lothian Road. Next time I saw it was aboard the Intrepid Feb 81. The night before we berthed in Bridgetown Barbados. Did I go swimming? Did I feck.

Was my favourite when I was young, my mum said I watched it so much on Betamax I wore the heads on the tape out. I also used to cry when Jaws got blown up.

Still a classic.

One of the most suspenseful films of all time, bonus being the mechanical problems of the shark which meant we required less screen time with it.

In particular when Robert Shaw is reeling it in slowly.... brilliant scene.

Also John Williams score. Can't remember when I first saw it. Must have been 6 or so so early to mid 80s, made me a long jumper! Lol, bedroom door straight into the bed! Shark infested floor....

Brilliant film, unremakeable!

Quality all round from Spielberg and a fantastic cast.
