You know the thing. Bands or musicians who when you say you dont like them has the psuedo music intellectuals reaching for the smelling salts with the "Oh how can you not like so and so..., maybe you've never listened to them correctly..." before proceeding to bore you rigid with how 'important or special' their chosen bandwagon is.

I'll kick off with Bowie. Heard a lot of his stuff and nah, it's not for me. Just pish.

The Doors- maybe being a stoner would help but its just long winded boredom in music form

Jimi Hendrix- no doubting the dudes skills but his tunes are shite. Might be the Stoner thing.

Beach Boys- Twee and sacharin. Pet Sounds is hugely over rated

Most if the stuff I've heard from The Who

Bob Dylan.  I really should love this guy as I love the era and folk music.  Maybe it is his voice I just can't take.

Also, almost everything in the 'digital age'.

REM

What do you associate with REM?

I'd say they were pretty outstanding up until, and including, Green.  Out of time was ok, but after that....although a nod to Monster.

Riddley Walker

Ed Sheeran

Adele

The Beatles

Stock, Aitken and Waterman, as a package

Surely nobody actually 'gets' your first two unless all you want from music is vanilla ice cream and a wee catchy melody.

I'd actually go as far as saying anything ever played on Radio One since the turn of the millennium.

And also any DJ from Radio One In this period (Moyle and that ***** comedy Dave, Reggie Yates, Bowman, Cotton etc).  I appreciate this was not the subject matter but I can?t express how much I despise everything to do with Radio One.

In simple terms I think I have a problem with Michael Stipe's face and the whole poshness of it all.

Out of Time was when they came to my attention, everyone seemed to jump on the bandwagon. I was into some epic metal at that time so they were easy to dislike. There's a fair few on my list that I respect while not getting them, REM are one of those to be fair.

I don't get them. I don't like their music. I can't stand Bono.

Plus 'It's a Beautiful Day' was played at FT at the 6-2 game

Annoying band members too. Bono's a sanctimonious ar5e and "The Edge"...? A name that says a thousand words. Mostly profane.

Never hesitate to tell a fan of theirs how 5h1te they are then watch them bristle with anger.

Although "The Edge" falling off the edge of the stage is very funny.

Bruce Springsteen.

I really like how he comes across, enjoy watching him talk, read his autobiography and reckon it's one of the finest music books every written...and yet I rarely, if ever, enjoy listening to any of his music.

Comes across as plodding, American, rock with 80s sounding synths.

Bowie, The Doors, and Hendrix - you are having a laugh son.

Which Bowie era of music have you listened to? Ziggy, Thin White Duke, 80s, 90s, 00s?  Glam Rock to Electronica to great pop rock to a variety of underrated styles late on.  His final album Blackstar is a masterpiece.

The Doors?  You just heard Light My Fire and The End.  Try Morrison Hotel, LA Woman for something different.

Hendrix?  The Experience albums are all time classics, and his live records are superb.

On Bowie, I thought Black Star was a dirge and only escaped criticism because of it's timing of release.

Its difficult to pick an album to start with but Darkness On The Edge Of Town might be a start.  I saw him at Hyde Park with Tom Morello of Rage Against The Machine and Paul McCartney.

The album as a whole is exceptional.  I think the title track confused a lot of people when it was released as it is very dark.

Lazarus is a masterpiece, for example.  I accept the Acid Jazz feel of the album maybe isn't to everyone's taste but I really like it.

I can get where you are coming from.  If you haven't already, you should give the first five albums a shot, or alternatively, get your ears around Eponymous, a sort of greatest hits album pre Green.

I P Knightley

A lot of my mates around my age (either side of 50) get all frothy over The Smiths and talk as if Morrisey was the second coming.

I just don't get it. Don't hate them but never bought any of their stuff and never turned up the radio or hi-fi if it came on.

Just another background band. Did I miss something? Did they break new ground anywhere?

The Smiths are epic.  IMO.

Morrisey on his own...good, but not quite great (like The Smiths were).

Brian Whittaker's Tache

For me....

Pink Floyd - Don't get it, never will, been forced to sit thru hours of it in my stoner days. Not even full of drugs.

The Doors - As above. Big Fat Dead Guy in a Bath (Doors story right there.. Apologies to whoever I stole that off)

Ed Sheeran - Nope! Going to Glastonbury this year and I wont be seeing him.

Mumford and Sons - David Cameron's idea of The Levellers

Father John Misty - Alt Folk Elton John

First Aid Kit - Fleetwood Mac with newer breasts

I could go on!!

Bowie - odd good tune now and again, but meh

Prince - see Bowie, but with fewer odd good tunes

Oasis - see thread

Amy Winehouse - won't speak ill of the dead

Nirvana - apologies, but I just did not get Nirvana

This is not to say that any of these bands/artists were 'bad', just that I did not 'get' them.

When are people going to take their head out their own arses when it comes to differing opinions and taste on threads like these.  There is no right or wrong to this ffs.  For example I do not understand how anyone regardless of age does not just worship the Beatles in their entirety.  But they are not wrong for not liking them as I am not right in doing so.

Can I ask how old you are roughly?

I remember getting ripped for my love of The Smiths back in the day. Saw them a couple of times back in the day and I've seen Morrissey on his own countless times

For me they spoke to me back in the day as a spotty awkward teen (saw them at the Caley Palais in 1984) they sang about girls and a familiar angst ridden view of the world, you could meet cool women thru your mutual love of The Smiths. I was the envy of my 5th-year class as the hottest 2 girls in school used to talk to me as we went to the aforementioned gig together.

I think its completely pointless people saying the likes of Bowie, Doors, Who, etc are shite when appeal and record sales spanning 40-50 years would tend to make their opinions irrelevant.

Chris Moyles is on Radio X these days (been there for around 18 months) and it's a very good show. The music played on the station is decent and other shows are worth a listen too.

Im not looking for a "debate". I like different music from you.

If thats diffcult for you to process or you think it makes everyone who likes different things to you an "oasis fan" then Im sorry.

Saying they are shite is different to not liking them agreed.  Dylan is far from shite but I don't particualrly care for his music.

And Travis. I'd forgotten they existed then there was a radio interview a couple of days back. How the hell did they ever headline Glastonbury?
