The "sitting there thinking" was a wee nod to Charlie lads. Keep up...

People will be glued to the edges of their TVs when this channel opens.

If it involves more horrific 'comedies' like scot squad and what have you they may as well burn the money.

Good, more opportunities for young people and more programmes about Scotland, history & culture etc.

Like the stuff on Alba. Documentary on Dundee Utd european cup runs, tribute to artists/academics/etc who contributed to Scotland. New drama.

30m for that. 30 Bob would do.

I'd rather buy a bar of christiemac toffee.

Could they not just spend that ?30m on SPL rights and put a better(non-Gaelic) programme on Alba? They'd likely boost their viewing figures more than this will...

Apparently they've already arsed half the budget on a 21st Century reboot of classic Gaelic TV series "Machair".  It's going to be in English this time though so at least some people will be able to understand it.

GBC. More River City style pish & dreadful comedy with added Old Squirm obsessed sports coverage.

Nah, I'll pass on this shite thanks.

I watched the series on Alba which focused on each years news in the 80's.  Alba 1980's I think it was called. Took me back, it was pretty good.

I have to ask why they feel the need. Perhaps a response to getting told to bolt over their pathetically named and totally unnecessary "Scottish Six" dream!

Honestly don't get the issues on both sides of this happening.

1. An hour long nightly show on Scottish news and events (or news from a Scottish perspective) is great as you get more scrutiny of Scottish political life and current affairs here from our view.

2. It's increased investment in Scottish broadcasting at a time of reduction elsewhere.

3. New jobs.

4. Brings Scotland in line with Wales (95%) and NI (74%) with more money raised here spent here.

5. A new channel with new programming on a limited broadcast shoukd improve out put (less time to show shite).

Why Nationalists and Unionists are moaning beats me. This is a great opportunity for Scottish media and broadcasting to do good work. We get a Scottish Sox without disrupting UK wide broadcasting we already enjoy.

Meets both sides half way.

Good stuff.

24/7 BBC BritNat propaganda guff coming our way soon.

Isn't it more mature to wait till it starts broadcasting before you make that decision?

Or are you hopelessly biased?

I could count the number of times I've watched BBC news output on one hand since the 2014 referendum.

There was a good article by Kevin McKenna yesterday about all the Labour hacks getting punted out of office next local elections and getting jobs there.

 watched about 20 mins of that guff too. I do most my tv viewing online, be it Kodi, Netflix etc now, as do quite a lot of people.
