Hoping Ian Cathro can get Tony Watt playing in the right position as that would be like having a new player as Watt  just wandered were ever he wanted under Robbie

Tony Watt has failed a under so many managers now. It is getting to last chance saloon for him.

Undoubtedly talented but something is missing.

I hope Cathro is finally the man to get this lad firing but I think Watt will be playing his trade at a Motherwell or Kilmarnock soon.

Neilson dropped him so his instructions were clearly falling on death ears. Can't see this changing, he seems to have made a career out of it.

Will be interesting to see how this one pans out.

If Cathro is as good is I believe him to be, we may see a better end product from Watt.

Think MacPhee, being a psychologist, might be the key to getting Watt's head in the right place. Certainly hope so

Tony deserves a chance under Cathro. I know Neilson had a video analysis team but I imagine Cathro will be the one with the laptop.

Watt is running out of time to prove himself at this level. Once his loan is up, who knows what Charlton will do, especially if he became a bench warmer at Hearts.

Maybe Cathro will see Watt as a box to box midfielder. I hope so, it looks like what he wants to do in all our games.

I think Cathro could get the best out of our technical players and help them make the right decisions in certain situation.

Sounds like Tony Watt to me.

Let's hope he does get the best out of him but please don't be at the expense of shifting Djoum into an unnatural position. Him as our linchpin is key.

I've played a lot of football manager, probably more than Cathro, so he better trust me.

Watt has failed everywhere he has been. He looked all right for the first few games he was here, as he was something a bit different. He scored against Partick Thistle at Firhill, nothing since, sounds remarkably similar to being at Celtic, scoring against Barcelona and then nothing. Watt's problems, in my opinion, are all within Tony Watt's head and the only person who can change that attitude is Tony Watt himself. His career to date suggests he doesn't really want to or cannot.

Most of the players will benefit from him, those that want to progress that is.Love the "No Limits" attitude.

I spoke to Levein a few weeks ago and asked him about Watt. According to him Tony Watt is told to play a high line I pointed out that he try's to do everybody else's job, his reply to that was Tony Watt is Tony Watt while pointing to his head. Strangely enough he hasn't featured since.

Tony Watt's head is also why the club do not allow him to speak to the press, at all.

I get the impression from his play that technical ability is not the problem, heeding the advice and instruction from the manager is. The only thing stopping Tony reaching the next level is himself, ability wise it's all there. However, he deserves a chance to prove himself to the new management, same as the rest of the players on the fringes.

I think we've seen the last of him. It was a gamble that probably didn't pay off. Guy has the mental age of a seven year old apparently so I can't see him carrying out what Cathro and MacPhee want. If they can get him going they're miracle workers. :)

Watts loan deal ends next month. His price tag maybe to much or not worth the gamble to keep him. It's a pity as Watt has undoubted talent but his final ball/decision making is his down fall.

Agreed.  Send him back in January.

We shouldn't write watt off he is a superb player

I think he will come good

the key is how he links with others

He has shown desire and it might just be the sort of challenge Cathro and MacPhee will relish

I say he can

(Not sure about Sammon though)

When you look at our squad and think of players who might be 'resistant' to Cathro and Macphee, Watt is one who might go either way. I hope not because there is a truly great player in there waiting to be found by someone. Now is the time though Tony or your going to disappear down a big hole of your own making.

It's his own fault if that is the case, he started off well but has been tepid at best recently. If he can't be bothered putting in the effort I coudn't care less if he was left to play only in reserves.

Unfortunately I think Tony is just one of those players, a maverick, with talent to burn who will end up regretting that he didn't fulfil his undoubted potential. All the skill in the world will only take you so far - modern players need strength, pace, awareness, intelligence and a strong work ethic. Tony could improve on each and every one of those aspects but I'm not sure he has the nous or desire to do so. The last few games have shown that the team is better without him.

Probably a possibility with any player, under any manager.

Can't see it, for some reason he seems to have a serious hump on his shoulders and a couldn't care less attitude.

Cathro might just see that watt isn't a striker and play him as a number 10, voulddo really well behind a front two

He better not drop Djoum

We haven't really seen Watt play as a striker as he's been playing so deep. I had it in my head - maybe from when he was at Celtic - that he was an explosive, direct striker who could finish. Would like to see him right up front with Johnson or even on his own and the team behind him configured in such a way that he doesn't feel the need to come back to get the ball. But maybe that's not his game. He's certainly very talented but so far is a bit like the guy at fives who has all the skill in the world but keeps the ball for too long and frustrates his teammates.

Watt scored 7 goals for Celtic from 2011-2014 in 25 appearances!!!!, not exactly mind blowing.

He's being playing in a number 10 role all season. We have a better one (our number 10!).

If they can get Watt ticking then they are as good as the hype. In which case I'll be wanting us to get Pinilla back!

As long as Watt is willing to take on board his ideas then I can't see why not.

This is one of the key things with Watt. I've seen it said about many players and many coaches on jkb over the years that a better coach/manager than X would get more out of player Y, but it doesn't always work that way.

Some players are either unwilling or unable to take on advice or information from any coach, regardless of how good the coach is. Even the greats such as Ferguson couldn't get every player to fulfil the level of performance their skills suggested they'd be capable of reaching. I suspect Watt is that sort of player, but would be happy to be proven wrong!
