Cut The Crap
2 hours ago, Thomaso said: Prior to our excellent January signings, IMO the thin squad we had would not have beaten Hibs or finished in the top 6. That would have spelt disaster for next seasons ST sales. A trip to Hampden, a secure top 6 finish, and a fully completed fit-out of the stand for the start of next season, would say to me the correct decision was made. Our thin squad did manage to horse the runaway league four-zip, so I'm not sure they were quite as bad as you think. I agree that the success of the strategy can probably best be measured by ST sales for next year. I'm less convinced that any of the three criteria you name (if they come to pass) will play a significant part in persuading punters to part with their hard-earned cash though. Unless the trip to Hampden involves actually winning the thing. Time will tell.

Francis Albert
I don't share some people's obsession with Hibs and so I simply didn't associate a reference to inferior steel with Hibs fans. I associated it with the picture of rusting steel in our new stand which was apparently not galvanised or coated therefore in my mind ... inferior steel. But groupthink increasingly dominates here so yes I whiff. Well "think" being a bit of a stretch.

Also, was it not a case of restoring the first team budget to nearer normal levels, as they had been depleted because of the new stand project, rather than increasing the norm? (btw, where on earth would players wages go but in players pockets? Does make it sound sleazy, though.)

socrates82
I had a little peek at the Hibs site and Christ they have let this season go to their heads, must be the fawning media coverage - first season after promotion and all that. But what have they actually achieved. Facts are at about the same stage in our first season after promotion we were much better off - in 3rd instead of their 4th and with a GD of +23 to their +8, so were playing much better. OK Rangers are in play this year, but if you take them out, we were 6 pts behind Aberdeen in the league and they are 5 pts behind them now. And, like us at this stage that season, they are out the cup early beaten by their local rivals. Except we needed only one go instead of two. Really hope we finish above them, but either way this "first season after promotion" stuff is nonsense considering how well we did in our first season back, and I don't remember this amount of praise. In fact some of our own fans were calling for Robbie's head Edited February 21, 2018 by socrates82
