And the money keeps rolling in...

From BBC website

The Football Association has agreed a new six-season overseas broadcast rights deal for the FA Cup - reportedly worth ?1bn - from the 2018-19 season.

Marketing agency Pitch International will cover rights for western Europe, Middle East and North Africa, with IMG covering the rest of the world.

Both will then subcontract deals to broadcasters, while domestic rights will remain with the BBC and BT Sport.

FA chief executive Martin Glenn said the deal was "hugely significant".

The value of the overseas deal was undisclosed but Glenn said it would allow more investment in pitches, facilities and participation programmes.

interesting article in Guardian over weekend about how bad the viewing numbers are for Sky and really bad for BT..

https://www.theguardian.com/football/2016/oct/24/sky-sports-bt-sport-people-switching-football-off

Some massaged figures as ever there. Like BT saying that viewing on their app is up by 17% this season. Well I'd imagine that is based on the fact that everyone on EE has just been given a free 6 month trial of it. With a fiver a month after if you choose to keep it.

It's surely peaked. That money for the FA cup is obscene. A trophy that was once a holy grail is now just a pesky fly for top 8 clubs. The football down there now bores me. I cancelled my sky subscription after the Liverpool v Man Utd shocker. I go to hearts games so match of the day (if there is decent games) will do me. I only have BT through my broadband so that can stay. Hopefully others will tell sky to fek off

Cancelled Sky midway through last season and honestly not missed it one bit. Don't have BT either. Although I've got to say that (any time I've watched a game) BT blows Sky out the water in terms of Scottish football.

Would love to see more and more Scots cancel their Sky. Send a message n aw that...

We got Bt as a freebie on virgin and kept mainly for its decenct coverage of Scottish football

If it want for cricket I'd have cancelled sky before now as rarely watch it.

I wish Fifa introduced a salary cap.

1 step in the right direction.

I agree, but that should've happened years ago.

Meanwhile we have doncaster and co.

Yup, practically having to give the rights to our tournaments away for free in comparison to the numbers being banded about down south.

Maybe in some weird wonderful twisted way Doncasters tenure will be regarded as a success for 'keeping it real' north of the border............ or not

I saw some guy called Kroos has signed a new contract with Real Madrid at 365k per week.  I've seen him a couple of times.  He's not a bad player.

The money is just insane.

I love Hearts exactly the way we are.

If our players were on that sort of money they would have no relationship with the supporters whatsoever.

I really believe that Scotland is being cheated with where the TV money is being spent. I subcribe to Sky Sports and BT yet most of the money i pay every month doesn't get spent in Scotland but goes into the English Premiership, Championship 1st & 2nd Leagues as well as Englands Womans games. Who is going to stand up for Scottish football so our clubs & fans get a fair cut of the billions that go into the coffers of English football.

A billion quid for a competition that the big teams treat with utter contempt.

The 'ba is well and truly burst down there.

A salary cap is a great idea but no doubt if it was introduced then the big teams would find some way around it.

The splits never been more obvious, and it's growing like crazy.

We're not far from the super clubs going off and doing their thing for a global audience, leaving the rest behind.

But the way I see it is that people will turn to their local teams again when the glitz and glamour gets boring.

With or without money, the heart of football's in the Scottish league, the Swiss league, the Azerbaijani league, and it's based on normal guys excitedly getting behind their local team.

We're going to see big changes in the game in the next few years, but Hearts will be just fine

Genuine question: do you predominantly watch Scottish football on Sky/BT, or do you also watch all the English games?

If you watch mainly English games then you can hardly complain at where the money goes. I suspect a huge percentage of Scottish subscribers are very happy for their money to fund English football because that is what they really want to watch.

Well yeah, the ratio is absurd, but if you are watching mainly English football - or, more importantly, would not be that bothered if they never showed Scottish football - then it is difficult to argue.

Not really.

Population wise, sure its off, but the money is being paid for the product people want.

If people don't want a product its not worth anything- that's our issue.

EPL is global, their teams are global now

The money they get reflects that

Scottish football is not, the money we get reflects that

There is a good case to be made for Scottish football getting a bit more money from the BBC, Sky etc. When the FA sells the FA cup abroad it just shows what a bunch of wankers Scottish football administrators are. Even Strachan tells the world we have a shite product FFS

Sky/BT etc can spend their money where they like.

The BBC licence fee on the other hand is a totally different matter and is something our MP's and MSP's should be questioning

If there's one Scottish game on a week, how do I go about watching more?

The point is of course he can complain, scottish football is restricted by rules put in place to benefit the epl, like no 3pm games on TV (I'm not aware of that rule existing anywhere else), but without a share of the reward.

I don't necessarily agree that sky HAVE to do anything about it, they're a private company not a charity, but I think people have reasonable grounds to complain and make their case.

The 3pm rule is agreed by all football associations in the UK. It also covers Ireland as well.

You can't blame English football for that one.

I just think there are (too many) people up here who are happy to have Sky solely to watch English football and then scoff at the state of our game. I despise them!

The bit that annoys me is they start showing Scottish football on a Friday night, it works so they start showing English football during this time slot. We need a weekly dedicated weekly TV slot where we are not up against the EPL. That won't happen so we will never get a fair go at showing our games.

Even the last old firm game was shown same time at Manchester derby, they just don't care about us.

The only good thing over the past 10 years is most Scottish clubs are in a financially good state, TV money around 2000 almost killed our game.

The answer is to cancel the SKY subscription if it really bothers you.

I cancelled mine years ago as I didn't see why my family budget should be used to pay the likes of Rooney and the rest a fortune.

It might not make a huge difference to the situation but at least you will feel better knowing you are not being taken for a mug.

People would need to cancel BT too.

That is the problem. For as much as people moan about it, most who have it, won't cancel. And if they do, many will resubscribe when the retentions team call them up with some sort of offer.

BT gives Scottish football a much fairer deal than SKY gives imo

I have been a BT customer for years long before broadband started. For a fiver a month I get Scottish and English plus European football .

Its a good deal AFAIC. I know people who are paying about ?70/80 a month for subscription TV utter madness.

Its not really subscription TV that bothers me when it comes to an unfair split of TV football revenue though. Its the BBC they get license fee money from all over the UK so they have a duty to treat all countries in the UK fairly imo they fail miserably in that. Subscription TV we have a choice whether to buy. With BBC we do not.

Didn't want Brexit but happy for that spin off. A bit like Hibs cup win keeping sevco under the cosh. Sometimes good things arise out of terrible things. If you see what I mean.
