Alan Maybury > Robbie Neilson

There is only one correct answer and that is Maybury. He was a far superior full back than Neilson could ever dream of.

Sure Neilson won more but that doesn't make him a better player.

Oh well, that's decided then.

I agree. It was Maybury that kept Neilson out the team.

Maybury was better going forward but also solid defensively.

Neilson improved as time went on but i was never his biggest fan when he was a player. Like others, he had a terrific season in 06.

Robbie all day long. He should win the debate just for that tackle alone in 06.

Maybury was defo the better player. Funnily enough we have had a lot of great LBs since I have been following the JTs but never an outstanding RB.

As a player it's Maybury all day long. Not sure there's much of an argument. Maybury was a full international IIRC.

So was Robbie.

Dusk_Till_Dawn

I was thinking about what a great player Maybury was last night.

Actually I wasn't. I can't think of the last time I thought about Maybury.

Great thread though from a rapidly improving poster.

Neilson was out on loan when Maybury was at his best (season 02/03), but towards the end of that season (after the split), Neilson came back from QotS and immediately slotted into right back, forcing Maybury to shift into left back for season 03/04.

Weirdly random thread, or OP with an agenda against RN?

Yes

Not a surprise Hibs trolls might want an anti Robbie angle

Robbie won the Scottish Cup

Maybury won?

Eh..and the quality of Robbie's team mates in 2006 compared to the team that Maybury played in???

Levein absolutely ruined Maybury when he put him in at Left Back to accommodate Neilson.

Does that make Stephen Elliott better than John Robertson?

Exactly - it was a bit of a silly analogy

Robbie contributed a fair degree to winning the Scottish Cup

Thought Hearts supporters realised that

Yep ruined him so much that we finished 3rd again and he got a move to Leicester with Levein.

Yes ruined in his later games at Hearts - from a dynamic Right Back marauding down the flanks, to being completely ineffectual stuck out on the left - and all to accommodate a far more limited footballer.

Surely they both go down as good, solid, dependable full backs who done the job to the required standard.

Maybury was more than that - far more pace, a more accurate crosser and a goal threat.  Once Levein stuck him out on the left he was like a fish out of water.

Always thought that Robbie would have been a good centre back if he was a bit taller and lot quicker. That said he was a good performer, solid but unspectacular, good defensively but terrible going forward.

Maybury was good going forward but was not as good defensively.

Maybury played for the Hibs though....

Bazzas right boot

Robbie, 10 years at the club, SC winner, championship winning manager v maybury who player a few years with hibs.

Deary me.

What's next Stewart v Mackay, or Keating's v Robertson.

The only debate on this is how much better was Nielson for Hearts than maybury.

What I mean is he was defensively solid, but not big or quick enough to ever go into centre half.

I thought this thread was about who was the better footballer - as such your comment that he was at the Club longer than Maybury, and he was a Championship winning Manager is a bit irrelevant in that context.

As for your other suggested comparisons I will obviously go for Stewart and Keatings..... :2thumbsup:

And IF he had better ball control, and IF he could pass and cross the ball.......
