Perth to Paisley

Is it in his contract to take every free kick?

Today was also another example of him taking too long to move the ball on.

Having the odd shot might help as well.

Personally prefer my forwards to be in the box...

Feel better after that.

To be fair he doesn't hide.

And as for Robbie tha was a bit of a half hearted tackle on the Ross County bench..deserved to be halved

Hearts best player today by a mile. Did Djoum's job as well. No complaints here for effort or ability. If others had shown the same drive, we would have won comfortably.

"i don't want to start a new thread but Tony Watt... what does he actually bring to the team? he has played something like 8 games and has contributed 2 passes that lead to an assist ( so not even an assist) and a goal from a yard out that the keeper should have done better with twice,

other that that he gives away possession nearly every time he gets the ball, i don't get it,"

The fact he was taking free kicks and corners later on shows for me the mentality. Want to be a provider not a scorer. Chances to shoot 1st and 2nd half but chose to pass. He has undoubted talent but he's not going to score a lot. That combined with sammon running slower than a week in the jail means we lack a goal threat of any kind.

Where is he wrong?

What else has he produced other than what he mentioned?

Laid one on an absolute plate for Nicholson who missed the target completely from 10 yards. What can you do?

The kind of player you go to football to watch.

Runs at players and gives 100% all the time.

Entertains the fans and gets them off their seat.

I was pissed off myself at the chances he passed up today but goal scoring obviously ain't his strong point and maybe why he's not achieved more on the game to date.

But not brought anything to our team?

Give me a feckin break!!

What would you rather see or who would you rather see in there then?

He keeps about 4 defenders at a time busy, for starters.

Sammon was actually pretty quick today I thought. One of the counter attacks in the first half he left everyone trailing.

I'd rather see a striker played as a striker.

We look extremely weak up top with Sammon isolated whilst Watt does his Rooney in an England shirt impression.

Johnsen also suffered last week because of him dropping so deep.

He's a good football player and when it comes off for him it looks good. Overall he doesn't bring enough to the table though. I don't want him replaced, I want him coached.

Maybe just maybe it's the coach who's asked him to drop deep eh?

Imagine that.

Needs to have a shot more often. Tries to hard to beat every man twice then walk it in. If you don't shoot you don't score

He does a lot of good work by picking up the ball and running at players, this forces opposition players out of position creating gaps and space for our players to exploit

Watt drops deep and draws players on to himself, sometimes two or three, so why does he try to beat them all? Surely if they are on him others are free and he should pass the ball more. We need an in the box striker, someone who can turn and shoot without having to look to fine the goal. Sammon is fine for holding up the ball but had a clear chance to shoot and chose to pass. Too often trying to walk the ball in or shooting wild from way out. Do they actually do shooting practice?

again, what does he actually do? if its not scoring goals what is it? because he hasn't  provided any

and its not just today hes passed up chances tho is it? its almost every game.

what would i rather see? either a striker who can score, or a player who can create something, watt has done neither yet imo,

He keeps about 4 defenders at a time busy, for starters.

when has he ever kept and entire back line busy?  you have made that up

i have never came on after a poor result to wind up hearts fans, ever, i honestly just don't see what watt brings to the table, he looks busy but doesn't actually do much

So can we really slate the player for doing what he's told if he's being asked to do that?

Despite my concerns about Neilson, even I doubt Robbie asks him to lose the ball so often, take another touch when it isn't needed and fail to shoot when he should.

Yeh because no other player loses the ball.

I agree he should get his shots away quicker though.

Watt is a great player his only downfall IMO is he tries too hard sometimes and an earlier ball would do more damage to the opposition.

I'm sure most us who played football at any level have come across players like Watt, I always reckoned we needed two balls when we had a kick about, 1 for the greedy sods and 1 for the rest of us. Tonge in cheek yes but.....

well what does he do? hes an attacking player but he doesn't score goals and he doesn't provide goals,

he comes deep and loses the ball a lot but what does he add to the team? i actually don't see it, surely having good technique is meaningless if you cant do anything with the ball.

im not saying hes a bad player, im saying i don't see what he adds to the team

Dr Ian Malcolm

Watt was coming deep as those behind him were painfully slow in moving the ball forwards, which resulted in it mostly going back the way. Whe he did pick up the ball and run at players from deep we looked dangerous.

Our lack of tempo in and out of possession was the problem today. Too many players just wanting to coast.

I think he is a player but it's obvious why he has failed to make it at a higher level. He has loads of tricks, keeps the ball well and has quick feet but he holds onto the ball too long, doesn't lift his head and doesn't make good decisions. His work rate or his ability are not in question but he needs to calm down sometimes when on the ball.

To me it looks like he's trying too hard.

Don't be silly, he's probably our best player but things just aren't happening for him at the moment, i still have faith in him hitting a devastating run of form.

In the match warm ups just watch both Tony and Sammon taking shots. It doesn't inspire me with confidence that both are not that good.

Agree with that but nothing comes out of his cross field runs. Do you think it's the rest of the team that can't read his moves...?

Felt for him today as others went through the motions, Neilson  needs to kick some arse

All roads lead to Gorgie

Maybe he could be the attacking midfielder we need. He's never gonna be a goalscorer from what he's shown so far.

I said similar on another thread. He has the quickness of feet and mind that is needed in an attacking midfielder and spends a lot of time in and around the centre circle into the bargain.

There's a reason Watt is out on loan.

When he passed to Nicholson instead of shooting...

I wouldn't pass to that little bottler either!!

Needs to stop coming so deep.

Needs Robbie telling him to do his work in the top 30 yards not 25 yards into his own half?

well, tell the midfield to get the finger out.

Watt is way ahead in thinking, that's why he comes deeper.

His problem is for a guy of nearly 23 he has played very little football, theres a reason for that, I said a few weeks back people need to reel in their expectations othrrwise they will be left disapointed.

I must've watched a different game than you the game I watched saw a player called watt drop deep hold onto the ball way too long then lose possession 90% of the time

shite.... He did lose the ball sometimes but not most of the time.

Understanding football is important.

Playing amongst a team not showing the same endeavour and willingness as yourself isn't easy.

We created a lot in the first half with him dropping very deep. Second half he seemed to be staying up top a lot more, and we created a lot less. Granted county sat in a lot more in the second half though.

Yeh he did. He over ran everything and took too many touches and continuedoing to try and take On an extra man when a pass was the easier option. My opinion. It's what I seen. It's what my eyes told my brain. Sue me. Call it shite. It's the way I seen it. For the record I'm his biggest fan. Needs to learn he can't take everyone on. He's no that good. I wish he was.

Watt needs to be further up the pitch so when he beats a man he's through, not trying to fight through from the half way line
