*** Fantasy Premier League 2016/17 ***

The Fantasy Premier League website is up and running again for the upcoming season. We usually have a JKB competition so hopefully there is enough interest to start one up again.

Obviously still very early days and lots of transfers still to take place but you can pick a team now and update it with unlimited transfers up until the deadline for the first fixture of the season.

There was a paid competition and a free competition last year on Kickback. I am happy to set up either this year unless someone else wants to do the honours. Can I ask first and foremost whether you would like to see a Classic League (most points win) or a head to head league (we play each other and user with most points on the gameweek gets 3pts, 1pt for a draw etc)? We always do both?

Thoughts?

I think a head to head league is more fun, personally. It always retains my interest more.

Me too but will see what the majority go for.

We could have both, but only a cash prize for one?

I would be up for either.  The Classic is fairer but the Head to Head is more fun (and frustrating, especially if you go on a 9 game losing streak over the Festive Period like I did in my work's league last season.  Ruined Christmas for me!).

I would be up for a cash one again. Personally I think the classic is better and fairer. In head-to-head there will ultimatelty be peoples interest who tails off eventually giving some people easier fixtures towards the end of the season, brings a bit of luck of the draw into it, also points hits, wildcards etc

I would be able for playing either though, whatever the majority choose

Say What Again

I'd echo pretty much what Gorgie Rules says above. Head to head is nice for something different, but I reckon most points your individual team scores over the season should win the prize.

In saying that, I'd happily take part in either (or both).

I've ran the cash comp for the past 3/4 years OP, but I'm more than happy to let someone else do it! It can be pretty time consuming matching teams to usernames, without chucking in folks real names and then them paying you via someone elses Paypal account

I always got there in the end though and would be happy to lend a hand if you wanted. :thumb:

Maybe we should wait until a sizeable amount of folk express interest then do a vote for classic or head to head.

Head to head sounds good. With a prize also for top outright points score. But I'd play whatever the choice.

Head to head would be something different. I'd be more inclined to play that.

My vote is for head to head cash.

Before I did H2H I thought it sounded shite but it's way more exciting than the classic league which just trundles along. If you have a slow start in the classic it's very difficult to catch up whereas the h2h is more unpredictable.

But like I have said earlier in thread, from experience about 30-40% of player's interest tails off, meaning that some people are getting easier fixtures towards end of season/harder at start. Brings a large slice of luck into it which isn't as fair when playing for cash. I'd still enter either but think the classic would be best. However would be up for playing in both if not much more difficult to organise

Why not run the classic for cash and the head to head for a bit of fun, all cash entries for the classic get an entry into the head to head, even stick a tenner from the cash league as a winning prize for the head to head

Haha I had a similar experience with my work. Had to go into hospital for surgery and missed several weeks to find when discharged half my team was injured.

I like Head to Head leagues. Have done Classic/Head-to-Head double a bunch of times with mates and the standings are generally similar in both leagues come seasons end

Nightmare!

I had no such excuse, just kept making bad choices. Ozil had a real purple patch over that period and it seemed like everyone I played had him as captain. When I finally got him in my team the goals and assists dried up immediately!

I mentioned on here that I would be happy to start the leagues up. If nobody else wants to do it then I will go ahead.

I'm just cautious I am busy with work just now and then come home to a 6 month old every night!

If folk can be patient, then that's cool. These comps are always fun and it'd be a shame not to do one again this year.

New to the UK but big in America

A Scottish tech company which became a major player in the US fantasy sports market is set to make its UK debut.

FanDuel said it would launch a new fantasy football platform in early August after striking a partnership deal with sports data provider Opta.

Under the deal, Opta will provide live performance statistics for FanDuel, which was set up in Edinburgh in 2009.

Details of the new platform have yet to be unveiled but FanDuel said it would focus on the English Premier League.

It marks FanDuel's first foray outside the North American market.

The company has offices in Edinburgh and Glasgow but moved its headquarters to New York several years ago.

It became one of the two giants of the fantasy sports sector, along with US-based Draft Kings.

FanDuel now lays claim to six million registered users across the US and Canada.

So frustrating.  Every season I swear it will be my last but then get drawn back in!

Cheers sir, it was just a wee message to let you know that I'd joined the league but it's still saying you can't accept new messages. I'm probably doing something wrong!

Does anyone if there's a Sun Dream Team league on here.

There is. I think the post about it was in The Terrace but you might have to go back a few pages.

Its a league style set up.

For example in Gameweek 1 it may be: Jack D and Coke v Homme

Whoever wins the most points that game week from the two of us gets 3 pts. If it is a draw we get a point each.

The next gameweek we will go on and face other people in the league.

It's better IMO. On the classic one, if you have a poor start you're pretty much out of the rest of the league. Whereas this one is much more unpredictable and fun, and if you have a nightmare first few games there's always a chance the other person will have a nightmare too and you can scrape a win.

It makes individual weeks more fun to follow as well, e.g. Say 9 of the 10 weekend games have been played and Riddley Walker and Jack D are level on points with a couple players each in the final game, you go into that last game desperate foe a clean sheet or not wanting the other guys striker to score.

I've done head to head the last couple of years cash with my mates and it's been close each time.
