I think some on JKB are real drama queens ( Hobos in disguise ),give the players a chance we have never started yet with our strongest team and the games have only been to sharpen up our fitness. Later this week we start the serious stuff against Arbroath & St Johnstone if we play badly then you can say your piece and moan, personally the only thing that is worrying me so far is where are the goals going to come from.

even then its too early to judge

Dead right.  I'll be really happy with narrow wins in our first few games.  Will start to judge us in October.

There`s still plenty balanced views out there.

I agree with the OP but i also see the grievances even though it was just a friendly and we were short of key players.

It may have been stronger opposition but that`s when you have to show more bravery and confidence in yourself. It may still not be good enough against better players but the fans want an indication that you are fearless against stronger teams and don`t go into your shell, that you are brave enough to still try and impose your game.

Increased expectations, still tinkering with formations, new players settling in, impatience, school holidays and undercover vermin.

Perm any 3 from 6 for instant roaster, things will hopefully settle down.

Despite RN working out a decent preseason schedule, the build up has been hindered by injuries to key players and hold ups bringing other players in. These things will make it difficult for us to hit the ground running like last season. Still think we'll have enough about us to progress in the league cup and beat St Johnstone, wouldn't be surprised to see us drop points at Dundee though.

If you take pre-season as a whole then I think overall there has to be an eyebrow of concern raised. There have a been quite a few good things in that the new signings look somewhere between okay and pretty damn good.I particularly like Augustyn A couple of the younger lads, like McKirdy and Oliver have done pretty well. The downside is that no one from last season (Paterson yesterday apart) has hit the ground running, in fact in the 3 games I have seen they look tired and lethargic (Ozturk and Sow in particular need to get their heads into the new season I feel). Could be that we picked the wrong type of opposition of course. I am not sure what you learn from chasing blue shirts for 90 minutes like we did yesterday, although it has to be said its good for general fitness to be given a work out like that. Maybe not so good for confidence though, especially amongst the fans (I heard booing yesterday in the second half - unbelievable)

Ive ended the pre-season a little less confident about us than I started it. However, we have seen poor pre-seasons plenty of times in the past and it didn't carry into the season proper. I just hope we can get enough big players fit enough to get a flying start. Nothing worse than dropping points in the first few games, especially given the way the fixtures dropped for us.

In summary -------- Little bit concerned on a couple of fronts but not overly so.

Very underwhelming build up to this season and having to see the same problems that we had from last year, with Anderson and McHattie to the fore, it's really disappointing.

Yep we really need this Oshinawa (sp) felly in ASAP. McHattie hasn't shown improvement in 2 years ( I am not talking about yesterday where he has an excuse) and might well get roasted at the higher level. Anderson I am fine with for now. He hasn't ever had a run in the team and he was one of the few little bright things yesterday IMO.

We cant just discount the play and results in pre-season, at this time.  Even although these games are selected to give the coach a chance to try new players\tactics\formations - you would normally see an improvement in communcication\understanding between the players - and an improvement in play and confidence (if not results).  The injuries have not helped of course - and the delay in signing a left back has not helped either.

The St Johnstone game is now, in my opinion, even more important than it was.  Win it, and all the pre-season games will be forgotten - lose it and we are in a bit of a mess, with confidence falling.

We won't see the real team this year until everyone is fit (or finally got here) and have played 4 or 5 competitive games together.  Even with a full squad and no injuries it still takes a few league games to get properly match fit.

I'm not a fan of one up top and I know it was Everton we were playing yesterday, however to pick up on your point about Sow. In the games so far this pre-season I've been very disappointed at how bad he's been at holding the ball up to allow midfielders to  get up and support.

Yet some teams in the league will probably hit the ground running and win their first 3 or 4. Starting sluggish isn't an option for me. There isn't any excuse for it having been training for 4 weeks and playing as many friendlies as we have. Its not as if we are decimated with injuries, just a niggle here and there.

You have taken quote out of context - not sure why.

We would be in a mess because we will have lost first home game/ have numerous injuries/ delays in signing target/ poor results in pre season/ unsure of best starting line up/ unsure of formation/ confidence at low ebb (?)/poor scoring rate/ players getting used to new colleagues/fans frustration.

THAT is a mess!

Anderson and McHattie;

From what I have seen of Anderson he looks like a player who will be at least decent at this level. He probably needs to play a bit further forward than he's asked to at the moment but there was at least one link up against Everton which showed his potential. As for McHattie, he is inconsistent but apparently his corner for Paterson's goal was outstanding. Time to give the boy a break imo.

Really don't understand the tears myself, Neilson is an inexperienced manager and trying things out in preseason which maybe don't work is good and part of the learning process, it shows he's adapting and trying to change it up.

I don't think it would be helpful playing pish opposition all close season and winning to then come up against decent teams like aberdeen and dundee utd and get pumped

With Mchattie he's not been the same player since miller GBH'd him and Anderson doesn't seem that bad

Ozturk Augustyn Rossi

Paterson                               Oshinawa

I really think too many people have spent to much of last season on the drink celebrating victories and its had a massive impact on their memories.

We were rank rotten in preseason last year. We were beaten by Hamilton, Man City reserves and absolutely torn apart by Dundee. I think east Fife were the only team we beat.

Then first real game we beat Rangers at Ibrox to set up the season we could only dream about after the turmoil of the year before, and I don't remember preseason being mentioned again.

I'll wait till a few games into the real season before I start judging Robbie and the team.

Who is injured that we don't have adequate cover for like ? And if we don't have adequate cover, why not. If we draw with St Johnstone and lose to Dundee it'll be because the squad wasn't good enough to cope or wasn't properly prepared, and that WILL be a serious problem. Not a disaster. Not a panic. Not a pant wetting. Just a serious problem that will need to be fixed pretty quick.

I think one thing to remember is that CL/RN are building long term, they have a system/style they want our club to play. Some players won't manage it and will be moved on but when it clicks, like last season, we will have something special on our hands.

I honestly believe that this is the first time for many a year not to get depressed at poor results or performances because what we are looking to build, if successful, is much more important than 3 points on Sunday.

Now obviously we have to win so many games etc and progress year on year, but I believe a top 6 to possibly Europe is a goal with a good cup run is achievable this year and unless we have a disaster I won't be getting on players backs (a new thing for me [emoji85]).

I honestly believe the next 2 seasons after this one may be very special ones to be part of

Its important to remember we're one year into a complete rebuild of the entire club. We are still reliant on players who were asked to play first team football in the top league who were nowhere near ready for that level. They would probably still only be getting a handful on appearance from the bench had it not been for the circumstances at the club.

No one can surely expect us to have 22 players all of the standard to see us win week in and week out in this league...surely not!?! Not even in the halcyon days of George Burley did we have that quality of squad. I would suggest if Celtic suffered 4 or 5 key injuries they would be significantly handicapped. Its not the EPL where teams can field two teams of superstars.

Even the guys who played last year are going to have to adjust to the top league. It may only be Scottish football but there is a difference between playing part timers and full time pro's week in and week out. I suggest anybody inclined to a soggy pant moment might want to invest in rubber breaks for the first 10 games of the season.

So we might have to accept that the squad as it is now isn't good enough to beat St Johnstone at home or get a point at Dens Park ? Nut. I'm not having it. Some folk are getting cold feet. We are Hearts and we fear no-one and drawing to St Johnstone at home hasn't been acceptable in any of the many seasons I have watched them. Dens Park ?? Well let's not go there obviously. I'd probably take a point right now if I'm honest.

I think most know what posters to ignore and if people engage in dialogue with some of them then it's really just for a laugh or for the sake of an argument.

Pop on the official friendly match threads and it's easy to spot the numbskulls. It makes it very easy to know who to disregard.

The way I see it, I thought we struggled against any half decent team last season and will be happy with 6th or above his year. I don't think we've improved enough to expect a higher position.

I can't remember the last pre-season when we ran riot and humped every team we played (maybe Burley's 2005 squad?) - certainly for the past few years the pre-season games haven't been that great in terms of us winning. Agree with your other points too and hope the vast, sensible, majority of our fans give it a few games as well before they start bitching (or whining like bitches...). A vain hope, no doubt.

You didn't. It was me who used that word. You said it might take some games to get match fit. I think we've played enough games and with serious hard work and triple sessions in between the half dozen games we played, we should be at a peak now, at our fittest possible level and bursting to go. That is the whole purpose of pre season matches. If we are not ready, then pre-season has been a failure IMO because most, if not all, of the others teams will be ready. St Johnstone and Dundee will believe they are ready so we had better be ready. I think we should be ready to get results right from the start, you think it's excusable not to be. A Difference of opinion I am happy to have with you.

Not a dig at you bud....

I cannot understand why people post a ''strongest' XI''.

I'm sure any coach or manager will tell you it depends who you are playing that defines your starting 11. Even top teams change system/personnel depending on the opposition. For instance, you might just play one up top against Celtic, but against Arbroath? You'd want a more attacking strategy there.

Also, selecting players in a ''strongest XI'', who you've never even seen play in a competitive game!  :vrwow:

There has been a feeling of confidence at Tynecastle with all the possitive happenings over the last year, but one or two lesser performances should not get folk worrying too soon.  With promotion, the games won colloum is sure to be lower than last year.  By November, when the first 11 games are played a true picture of the team will be more clear.

Thursday is a chance to get back to competitive action and a good warm up for Sunday. It's fair to say John Sutton is no Lukaku, so let's see how we cope with him and Liam Craig before getting worked up.

Don't know about you, but I didn't buy a season book for Barcelona. Any mix of Pallardo, Buaben, Juanma, Augustyn either not playing or being short on fitness is a problem on the simple basis we don't have the same quality in reserve. Nor should we, without doubling the budget.

We have lost at Dundee for years, with pretty good teams. We have a poor recent record against St Johnstone. Nothing to do with preparation or "serious problems." Also not a guarantee that entire season will be Donald Ducked. What is inevitable is punters such as you losing the place about such a chain of events without appreciating why it might have happened.

We have perfectly adequate cover for the players you mentioned. Punters like me don't think we should be dropping points at home to St Johnstone. Punters like me believe that after 6 friendlies and 4 weeks of intense pre-season training, a couple of niggles apart, we should be ready for the season ahead. Not waiting 3-4 weeks for it all to click into place and get so called 'match fit' whilst our rivals get on with it right from the off and get a start on us. It's unacceptable as an excuse that we are 'not ready' and I'm trying hard to think what other club would use that excuse. Oh yeh I remember now. Too many people making excuses for failure that hasn't happened yet and probably won't.

Let's be clear about this before the season starts. Heart of Midlothian FC losing to St Johnstone or Dundee is failure that would be a serious problem if it continued to happen. Anyone think different. ? Good, then let's get started !!!!
