Season 1997/98 Season Review - Sky Sports

Found this video on YouTube which I thought was quite interesting. Shows the highlights from the games in the 97/98 season minus our cup win. I was quite surprised at how full most of the stadiums were, especially Easter Road. I guess the football played back then was more exciting than it is now, either that or tickets were cheaper. It would be good to see the stadiums that full again.

Believe it or not, everyone was complaining about the standard of Scottish Football at the time, just like today. Just as they were in 05/06. We only seem able to appreciate these things afterwards.

A fantastic season, although league-wise, not one without flaws.

My 12 year old self was devastated when we chucked the new year Derby. Our poor record against the OF was ultimately our downfall.

The rest of it, however...

Really enjoyed that.  Well done OP.  Just shows what a challenge JJ had when you look at the calibre of the players he was up against.  Did brilliantly well imo.  Hibs did really well too.  Far better than I would have expected.

St. Johnstone, Motherwell, Kilmarnock and Hibs late on (and Hibs New Year) equally cost us.

League just wasn't to be.

Weren't Motherwell careering towards admin -I at that time? Also, think Kilmarnock were playing players they could not afford. Shouldn't we just declare they cheated and pretend we won the league?

What a season  :sob:  :verysmug:

I remember watching this originally back in 98 and could have sworn the cup win was pinned on the end.

It was the 2-2 draw at ibrox with a late, late Albertz free kick that finally killed the league challenge in my eyes.

Still, we got our sweet, sweet revenge on 16th May!

Epic season!

Looking back, how on earth could rangers think that all those players and amounts of money were afordable.

It wasn't like they were buying and developing to sell on like celtic have the last couple of years, and like we are thing

did anybody else notice that John Leslie appears to have a massively long body and incredibly short legs

The days before transfer window's.  Clubs had until March 31st to sign players.  I'm convinced if we had added 2 more bits of quality for the run in we could have won that league. Apparently Jeffries was pleading with Robinson to free up some cash but the Pie man was having none of it.   Brilliant side that just fell short.

I've always said the 1-1 draw to Motherwell was the day our challenge died. The wheels came off then and we struggled after that.
