"Scottish Cup final referee Willie Collum would welcome the chance to explain decisions publically - but not immediately after a match."

"Publically", FFS BBC. It's publicly.

I can only assume no one proofs their Scottish sport pages because they are usually riddled with errors.

I think it can be helpful to referees if they happy to, to explain their decisions. It helps fans and pundits see the thinking and give refs a chance to defend themselves.

publically is a correct term, just not in as common usage as publicly.

Reading between the lines he knows he's a complete and utter incompetent and there are bound to be several decisions that only a complete fuktard would make.  He is therefore saying he will explain them, but only after he has had a chance to make something up that's plausible.

I've got a better idea Willie, just do everyone a favour, quit without further delay and let someone in who knows WTF they're doing.  There are a few refs in the Championship who could step up IMO.

On a side note, would you EVER tire of punching that face?

"Well there was a chance Celtic were going to loose so I thought giving the two penalties either side of half time was the correct decision, the sending off was just because I'm a spiteful little shitehawk"

Wouldn't it be more beneficial for everyone if the arrogant little skidmark just got the occasional decision correct.

Just do what you are paid to do without any favouritism towards a certain team ya wee bean bag.

Honest mistakes I suppose William. All in favour of one team but just a coincidence I guess.

Used to be a principle teacher of RE in a Catholic school.

Genuinely didn't know that until now. Don't even know why I looked it up. He's poisoned my brain.

Plus, I thought he was a lot older than 36. RE must be hard going.

Hope his next shite is a hedgehog. Although, being a former pupil at an RC school it'll likely just fall out of his arse.

The man makes assumptions about what football fans think as easily as his assumptions that it must be a penalty to Celtic. Consistent.

There's an arrogance there as if we don't understand the load Collum carries. It really is an uncomfortable listen for those who have witnessed his dire performances.

It says it all that he wants a period of time to elapse before being given the chance to issue an 'explanation'.

As ever with Scottish Football, it isn't tangible accountability that's important.. it's the impression of it.

Regarding this particular referee. When he first came on the scene, we were told he was the next big thing. Destined for the top. He was of course... but not based on his ability. For whatever insane reason, this guy was elevated to high status without first proving his worth. Something he has since gone on to completely disprove.

Again, very Scottish Football.

A chance to see the replays, see what the media are saying, and invent a "plausible" excuse for an inexcusable decision..?

I probably agree with all your comments.

I think the ICT / Celtic cup final was probably a case in point.  Gave it a few days to come up with a plausible excuse, were challenged and got themselves in to all sorts of a pickle.

Unfortunately the SFA work on a hide  /damage limitation / barely truthful approach to the referees conduct and performance.

Did they not use to do some sort of online justification for some of their decisions? Didn't last long though...

Mark Wilson on Sportsound just saying he's not the most approachable on park - refereed his school games. No surprise.

Came across a bit better than he does on park - can talk at length without breathing too.

This.

After hearing him speak at (great) length, I now dislike him even more. Comes across as a right tosser.

Referees should be made to write and submit their match report before they shower. That way they can't be influenced by tv/media when putting together their report.

Bellshill I think.

He should not be anywhere near a Celtic match let alone come to Tynecastle for their away games.  The SPFL could save on expenses and let him come through on the team bus.

Id like to hear an explanation for why Willie Collum continues to be appointed to refereeing most of the high profile matches (Hearts vs Celtic matches in particular) despite being utterly atrocious.

Referee reports should be made public.

That way they don't have to give an interview but we can see what laughable reasons he has for being a cheating *******.

"Publically", FFS BBC. It's publicly.

That's so that has time to have a word with the other officials and the SFA to make sure that are all telling the same lie oh sorry story.
