If you played for another team V Hearts

The Jason Cummings thread has got me thinking a bit about this.

When I played against Hearts as a youth team player for Dunfermline (played once  ) and also played a game against them as a Scottish Cup winner for Edina Hibs, I have to admit that I bust a gut when playing against Hearts due to trying like **** to impress the scouts and coaches.

It got me thinking, how would I react if I had made it and managed to score against Hearts at Tynecastle. Especially if I had been in their youth team and they had emptied me. What would my reaction be.

Must admit I wouldn't be giving it big licks in front of the fans as I just couldn't do that, however if I had had my hopes dashed at the age of 17, would my feelings towards the club be any different.

This is a question that I am struggling with this morning, help me out KB!

Please don't turn it into another Cummings bashing thread, I just wanted to know how YOU would react given similar circumstances?

Getting released from a club at an early age isn't unusual, I would just be thankful that I was playing professional football for whoever I was playing for, I certainly wouldn't be bubbling about it and giving the fans stick if I scored against Hearts, I'd rather impress and hope the club would see they made an error and re-sign me.

Unless I was turning up for a pre season friendly playing for Real Madrid, then I probably wouldn't sign for Hearts. Haha

It's probably a question no one can answer honestly.

You'd have no idea how you'd react until you were in that situation.

Always said if I'd been good enough to play for Hibs (you can't say no if that's your only option, can you?) and had to play against Hearts (and score) then I'd celebrate with probably more gusto than against any other team. It's a huge moment in a huge game, to be fair. Although I definitely would not be giving it the GIRFUY to the family stand, or any stand with Hearts fans in it, given that my mates and more than likely, my Dad, would be in the Hearts end.

Then again I've also always said that if I was good enough to be a first team player at Hibs I'd never be off the phone trying to see what I could do/had to improve to engineer a move to Hearts!

Me and my dad had this exact conversation yesterday.

I suppose you can't really say until you're in that scenario but I couldn't see myself acting like him.

Did Robbo ever act like that against Hibs? I could imagine he might have later on in his career after years of abuse from them.

I can understand he feels a bit hurt and what not being shunned away by his boyhood club, but he's not going to achieve anything trying to get it up the fans. After all, he was sat in Section G with them a couple of seasons ago.

Early on in his career he celebrated by running half the length of the pitch towards the Hearts fans whilst giving it the old Nescafe handshake to the hibs fans.

Personally, if I scored against Hearts, I would be right in front of Section N kissing the badge of the club that pays me, finger to the mouth to "ssshhh" the fans, turn round to show my name, give it the full crotch grab, then finish by standing stock still and arms outstretched to enjoy the abuse of the rabid Yams.

Then I would repeat in front of Section G...

I honestly couldn't tell you mate. Hearts had Tommy Harrison ruling the midfield though, I remember that much!

We did beat Hibs though 1-0 when I played for Edina, piece of piss

I have thought about how I would react if I played for Hearts v West Ham or the other way about. I think you can either go down the Carlos Tevez/Joe Cole route, which the fans respect or the Frank Lampard route, which the fans hate you for. Think I'd do the Tevez.

Thankfully I'm a chubby 51 year old so it aint gonna happen.

I'd be punting one on one chances to the corner flag and scoring own goals.

I got released from my S form due to being, well a radge ! :-)

I had Jimmy Stanton at my door asking to sign for that lot!

Being an aforementioned radge I said no !!

I was only 14 but thought I couldn't do it. Wrong decision big time.

Oh well better get back to painting this ceiling !

Was handed a strip with the old hubs badge on and pulled a sticky never went back my old boy was proud as punch,

Was a hell wearing a hibs strip no chance,

When you went for your trial did you not know that Edina HIBS played in Hibs strips?

Yes one of my mates played there(hibs fan)

Thought it would be a good idea to go but once handed the strip there was no danger I was wearing that,

I would have done the same as a pro football player as I did in the amateur games I played in, 100% regardless who I was playing for or against, pretty stupid thing to ask.

Bazzas right boot

in a normal league game It would not bother me at all. Professional footballer and all, do your job.

However, I imagine ( all I can do) it would be harder in a cup final, or a game were it relegated us or stopped us winning the league, wouldn't like that as it would live with you, even after you had retired from the game and stopped being a professional.

imagine relegating your own team or scoring the winner in a cup final for Utd or the likes.

I would also like to think if I had played at that level and not for Hearts I would be either too gash and not bother Hearts or be good enough that  I won my move to Arsenal ( from Hearts) and wouldn't be playing Hearts..  that much.

I used to give my all in every game, even friendly kick-abouts and fives with mates and always hated losing so I don't think it would be any different. I would probably try and detach myself from it being Hearts and just get on with the game. I suppose if tackles were flying in, I would think less of Stephane Adam and the 1998 cup parade and just try to win the match.

Harry Palmer

As a former shit defender in a lower-than-pub-league team that didn't bother to warm up, barely trained and most were hungover and as scorer of own goals in consecutive matches - one of them was a great finish, from a cut-back, that any striker would have been proud of and the other bounced off my belly from a yard out - I'd like to think my performances would be of a similar standard.

Might send that round a few clubs, see if I can't resurrect my career...

Try your hardest but don't celebrate goals.

Anything other than that would be inappropriate for a footballer who is being paid by their club to do their job as best as they can.

You and I both.  I would rather face a firing squad than face Hearts.  Couldn't do it, wouldn't do it.

If I scored for Hibs against Hearts, I'd probably do a Denis Law.

Was always my choice of celebration. Timeless and classy I say.
