...please go spin on it. So after plundering Scottish football, grabbing as many fans as possible, making sure you have every bit of power, you decide that Scottish football doesn't deserve you so are looking for more money by going abroad. oh sorry, but you made your own mess, you have brought Scottish football down, stopped ways of making it more competitive, thus making it more attractive for more investment. So please dont treat Scottish football as holding you back when (and your old firm partner in crime) have held smaller clubs back for years.

This is why we dont get more money, Celtic keep gazing away at the next door neighbour thinking its just a matter of time before they take you in, why should care about long term future and improvement of the house your already in if in your mind its only temporary.

Well where could they go.  Its only practical to be part of the FA.  They can't join the Bundeseiga for exaample.

There is zero chance of any of that happening. How can a euro elite league compete or run alongside the champions league. To run along side clubs who qualify on a regular basis would lose this. Stupid Celtic we are too big for Scotland crap.

well he is convinced there will a European league of second tier league teams (presume he thinks Netherlands, Portugal, Scotland etc.) But if it is only made up of the biggest supported teams in these countries, it brings the biggest flaw in these leagues (same with a super European league with teams like Barcelona, Chelsea ,etc.) The flaw is that its fine if your the team in the top 3 every time, but say your a big club such as Celtic, built on success and winning most of the time, imagine being in a league where you are mid table or even lower table, where you quite often lose, are fans going to keep following you in the numbers they were before? Of course note. So a clubs support goes down, its money goes down, it gets worse and worse, and then does it justify its place in such a league.

exactly. But so long as the old firm convince themselves that its possible they lose interest in bigging up Scottish football and doing the hard work to secure better deals for the league. Instead they will belittle it, and even have an interest in keeping the league revenue low as it provides the excuse to keep pushing to move for a better deal ("the money in Scottish football is so restrictive, but if we moved to a bigger league we could get more money for the team which could trickle down to Scottish football as we could buy SPFL players.)

I honestly don't blame them for being 'envious' of abroad or even wanting to play in a different league. If they played in one of the major leagues and with the resources that came with it they probably could be a massive club that signed top players rather than one that sells their best ones to Norwich or Southampton.

I do however detest them for the continual talking down of the SPL to the detriment of everyone in it including themselves to the point of the main sporting competition in a country being unable to find a sponsor.

JiG has summed it up perfectly to be honest.

How many years of having your shite clothes ripped, and the popular-kid's front door slammed in your face do Celtic need, before they get the message and suck it up.

The only reason their current league doesn't satisfy their wants, is because they and Rangers have devalued, drained and parasitised it for so many years.

Arseholes. Thankfully the very thing that helps keep them big and popular in Scotland and Ireland, is the very thing that makes them unpalatable to everyone else.

Dont care.

We have proven this season that Scottish football does not need the OF to be an entertaining product.

Id be more than happy if they were to leave and become a mediocre european team and we can get on with enjoying Scottish football without their poison.

Or they get denied and make further aresholes of themselves.

win win.

They haven't ruled out the possibility of joining an elite European league?

The other clubs in this elite European league clearly have to do more to persuade Celtic to join!

Maybe an effective veto along with one other club on any changes to the rules.

Maybe the lion's share of sponsorship and TV money.

These elite European clubs must surely know how attractive to them Celtic would be and should be bending over backwards to persuade them to join.

He was also slavering about how unfair it is for their name to be blackened by their famous tiny minority of misbehavers. 2 (two) was the number he chose in order to illustrate the tinyness of the surprisingly loud minority... of 2.

So... don't bother yourself dealing with the misbehavers. Much more important to pretend there aren't any - apart from 2 - and claim unfair treatment as a result.

Aye... that'll get ye yer move to a bigger league.

When they are struggling in the bottom half of their elite European league they will look back on 30,000 empty seats with fondness and envy.

At what point will the SFA deem Lawell's continual besmirching and disparaging of the game and league in Scotland worthy of a disrepute charge?

Is this regularly repeated Lawwell theory about loads of other clubs in other countries wanting the same thing actually true? I haven't seen any evidence of it. Obviously the biggest clubs make fortunes from the Champions League but I haven't seen that addressed by anyone (Porto, Ajax etc) wanting to leap into cross border leagues.

Scottish football would be even better if there was a level playing field!! If they really want the whole of Scottish football to improve *and them as well)" - then there will need to be a fairer system of distributing the money. They may not like it short term but in the longer run it would improve the standard.

They could also stop plundering other teams best players - and then moaning about having no competition!

Exactly this. If the OF leave we'll get more trophies and european football and a more competitive league in general despite the fact Celtic are hardly running away with the league this year.

The enthusiasm and joy of Hearts fans from our lower league campaign proves that you don't need the filth around for football to matter and to have value. Even for us, by far the next largest club behind them. Much more so for smaller clubs.

We have proved they aren't needed. End of story.

Makes me sick that vlad /Hearts were fined at every opportunity for saying very little but Lawwell can say our leagues suck and he wants out with no consequence whatsoever. Disgusting. I'd love the spfl to grow a pair and say "feck off then" but we know they never will. Wish the old firm would die and the beaks at Hampden slithered off with the clap!

They wont bring that against him, but I wonder if they were to say to him, fine if you want to leave then we wont have you on any SFA or SPFL boards, see how quickly he changes his tune.

He IS the board unfortunately. Until the day somebody demands the commercial interests of Celtic and eventually Rangers again stop being the same thing as the 'health of Scottish football' the rest of us will continue to be insignificant .

I heard this too and just about fell off my seat.....which was alarming because I was driving at the time! It just shows the continuous denial that goes on in the heads of the Celtic-minded. They are oblivious to the offensive songs and the vandalism subjected on grounds like Fir Park, Dens Park and Tynecastle. Maybe the rest of us have dreamt it all.

It would be more than welcome if they left for England, Ireland or any league that keeps them away from Scottish football.

Thats what is mental, a guy who actively talks down the game in Scotland and the desire for his team to play in a non-Scottish league, gets given every position going and allowed to dictate things.

Put it this way, if Rangers and Celtic moan about not enough money in Scotland requiring them to move abroad, how come they have not tried to do more when tv deals were under negotiation? Or looked to get someone better in to the run the SPFL/SPL who can bring about more money...

Them leaving the SPL would be the best thing to happen to scottish football. We would have one of the most competative leagues in European football, which would make the league more attractive to sponsors and tv. Attendances would rise, due to having something meaningful to play for than the usual non event of third, or as it is now, second place. And we wouldn't have to listen to anymore of their horrible songs or put up with the carnage they cause when in town.

I might be stupid, but isn't there already an "elite" European league (the Champions League) and Celtic already get a chance to participate in it?

There is also, if I remember rightly, a "secondary" European league (Europa League) that Celtic also get a chance to participate in.

- From playing performances, Celtic are ranked 54th in Europe (although that will go up considerably if they do well in Europe next year).

- From a crowd size perspective they are ranked 16th in Europe.

They are hardly "giants" in European terms, and they are probably exactly where they belong.

What they're essentially saying is "we'd like circumstances to change in a way that enables us to make more money", which is surely the case for every club on the planet. What's less common is a sycophantic media lapping it up. This sort of shite should be treated with the same disdain as the 39th game idea in England .

Pillaging Scottish football for all they can, whilst all the while aiming to leave it behind like a redundant mine. Disgusting approach, sadly typical of this capitalist society where profits are the only goal. Instead of talking-down Scottish football, they should be talking it up, and investing in the future of the game in this country. They think the rest of us are holding them back! They're holding us back.
