Don't know much about him in terms of his coaching abilities but have you seen the nick of his coupon. He obviously loves a wee half!

Will be interesting to see what he does. Didn't see a lot of youths coming through the ranks at Man U during his time there. I'm not expecting anything other than, this is the way we've always done it!!!!!

Will judge on production skills/results. Stinks of jobs for the boys though indeed

The SFA is very insular and very controlling.

If you look at issues such as nine a sides for twelve year olds, refs foam and a GB team for the Olympics then they always seem to go for a very old fashioned out of date approach.

The last person appointed to this post told us we would see the benefit of his work in 2020 or something like that. Instead nothing has changed and why we have not changed the structure is beyond me.

Please don't tell me your claiming Pogba and Januzi as products of the Man U youth academy??

You right though, some pretty average players in that list

Htf he ever pulled a man u jersey on is Beyond belief

Na, he had a good record at Celtic and when he moved to Man U he pumped in about 25 goals in his first season! ****in shite for Scotland tho!!

I'll assume you are either young or a Sky Sports era watcher. He was a goal machine at Celtic and then a very intelligent forward at Man Utd. Ferguson doesn't tend to stand for mugs in his teams.

They both joined Manchester United's youth academy aged 16 so it's fair to say McClair will have played a pretty crucial role in their development.

That will be the same Pogba who wouldn't sign a contract because he only made 3 sub appearances in his 2 years at Man U. How's he getting on now btw??

Januzij was a boy wonder at Anderlecht, not sure he has progressed since joining Man U.

However the football league is full of old Trafford kids who clearly aren't good enough for the top level.

Would you consider Paterson and McHattie Hearts products?

This is a joke question, right?

Yes of course I would, as I would count David Templeton as "one of our own".

Seriously though, based on my thoughts and feelings on the two Man U players I picked out that long list, do you really think I would consider the signing of two 16 year olds as products of our youth academy.

Just to clarify - No

Dunfermline and Tynecastle BC get the credit, I believe.

Reckon there are about 5 or 6 good EPL standard players in there, but that's neither McClair's fault or a subject for this thread.

Oops, sorry. I forgot we have to have your approval before we can debate anything. Apologies. Won't happen again ;-)

I'm confused, you say you consider them products of Hearts but then say no they aren't?

What are they? Hearts products, yes or no?

Apology accepted :bobby:

(Chill...I was just saying the subject of who takes the credit for producing players is worthy of it's own thread.)

No worries, didn't mean to appear "in your face". It was a tongue in cheek comment. I agree with your sentiments as clearly it's open to debate if claiming a 16 year old (Who joined the club at that age) as product of your youth academy if fair.

Thought it was? Thought the discussion was supposed to be about McClair and his role in youth development. I think he done a pretty decent job in his role at United as far as i can see

I couldnt make heads or tails of it either. Says they are our own, but then gives the credit to their former clubs. McHattie and Paterson, yes they are our own by the way. Not that it makes a difference. His original moan was that Man United dont bring through youngsters, they clearly do, some decent players. All of whom McLair had a hand in help produce, and thats his role now, to produce players for Scotland, from the youth levels right up to the first team
