Urban myth it never happened.

More than one Hearts player are on record saying it did.

Robbo said it live on TV in the build up to the 2012 Cup final on BBC.

You are right I just contacted Police Scotland and asked about it.

They say they have no record of this and cannot understand what type of person may pose as a Police officer to try to stop Hearts scoring goals at Easter Road.

Although they are discounting nothing.

If there is an image to think about, when you have an unwanted stiffy, then this is it.

Never happened. Good effort though.

And you know that how? On what basis are you so sure? Is it in that secret file your shower have that also contains with patent to football itself, floodlights, and green strips?

Hmmmmmm who do I trust most?

Ex professional football players John Robertson and Gary Mackay who were in the dressing room?

OR

A H1b5 fan who spends hours every day on a Hearts forum and knows nothing more about the events of that day other than he doesn't want to believe them?

Tough one.

Didn't Gary Mackay mention it in his book?

Robbo said the police told Hearts not to score any more goals but also stressed that Hearts tried their hardest to score more but were unable to do so.

I for one believe him.

Is it just me that thinks the polis had word with celtic at half time and told them to go easy. A disgrace of a game

It is just you bud... Celtic were bad and Rangers not much worse!

we barely crossed half way in the second half, and no because Hibs had us under the cosh.

The request from the police is factually correct. Feel free to deny to yourself, it is the Hibs way after all.

Doctor FinnBarr

A poster on here has claimed to be in the dressing room that day and confirmed it did happen. Can't remember the posters name but he refused to confirm who he actually was. Might be shite, don't know.

My guess would be GM

That second half did have a hint of W.Germany/Austria 1982 about it. A total non event compared to the first 45.

The police came into the Dunbar end that day at half time and told us to stop laughing at the Hibs fans, else they'd have to let the ones who hadn't already left out early and it might conflict with the emptying out of the Mecca bingo hall at the foot of Leith walk.

Fact!!!

I know, i was there.

I can vouch for that.  I was at the bingo hall.

Is it just me that doesn't think we were half as crap or Hibs half as good as they thought they were in all these games we didn't lose to them? You go in to the games expecting to win and comfortably and if it doesn't happen you think we have to have been crap or them brilliant.

Similar to the last derby. You feel deflated because we didn't win but from 30 minutes to the 80th, 6 attempts for us and none for them. But you just remember the terrible 20 minute start and last 10 when we decided a point was enough.

andi17 is a lifelong friend of a player who played in the mercer game.

The "police told us to calm it" chat has become a bit of a wind-up from the players of that day.
