RobNox Posted November 26, 2014 Share Posted November 26, 2014 This being reported on BBC Sport: The Serious Fraud Office wants anyone with information regarding alleged corruption in the bidding for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups to come forward. The SFO insists it currently lacks the relevant jurisdiction to investigate. But in a letter to Conservative MP Damian Collins, seen by BBC Sport, the SFO's general counsel Alun Milford admits the organisation is appealing for "whistleblowers" to get in contact. The development creates the possibility of Fifa facing a UK criminal probe. "Plainly, the Serious Fraud Office welcomes any additional information that may assist in determining whether a criminal investigation should be opened," Milford states in the letter. "I encourage anyone with relevant information to come forward and discuss it, in strict confidence, with our Intelligence Unit. The easiest way for any whistleblowers to contact us is through the SFO confidential email address. "You can be assured that every reasonable line of inquiry, including working closely with appropriate overseas authorities, is being pursued to ascertain whether the director has grounds to open an investigation." This has turned into a complete farce however I actually thought something might get done. The only way to stop them now would appear to be for the big nations to step up and walk away. As others have said previously. It'll take a large group of major sponsors along with other companies to come out and take action before something might get done. For these nations, and especially their leaders and bureaucrats, the sort of entrenched corruption that goes on at FIFA is just 'doing business' and part of their everyday dealings. They don't care about fairness or due process, they just want money. It will take a mass boycott of FIFA by nations that act against corruption: USA, UK, Germany etc. for even the slightest impact to be made. Here in Thailand the game is blatantly corrupt, with Thai FA president Worawi Makudi implicated in numerous corruption scandals including the World Cup bidding process, yet remaining in charge. The over exposed EPL and Champions League especially the CL which is set up for the select clubs of big nations. Look at our SFA pandering to one club that didnt meet the licence criteria in 2012 where a 5 way agreement outwith the football rules was required. FIFA should publish the report in full, even a dedacted version to protect those who gave evidence. Although the summary version they published revealed the names of the two original whistleblowers, so hung them out to dry while serving a lesson on anyone else who dares to speak out against them. Set up their own European tournament initially, obviously they won't be permitted to play in the FIFA World Cup, but if they can subsequently convince the South Americans to come on board for a new inter-continental tournament, suddenly there is little point in the rest of the confederations remaining with FIFA, as the bulk of the money will be heading elsewhere.
