Who's better right now, Rangers or Hibs?

Been thinking how we struggled at the start v Hibs the other week and how I don't want to see that again today. Then I remembered Hibs hounded them at home a few weeks before that. Their form's pretty similar right now, but are Hibs the better team overall at the moment?

No two games of football are the same.

I'd say Rangers are stronger as the league suggests,

Many teams can produce one-off performances but overall aren't consistent.

There's not a huge amount of difference between Hearts and Rangers with the vermin and QOTS a wee bit behind.

The vermin have been able to lift their games against us and the Huns but they're not good enough to be consistently beat the other teams. So the Huns are better.

Before the Alloa game rangers were scoring for fun and put a good run of results together including wins against PL teams. No brainer this one.

However Hibs "almost" beat D UTD and sung for the entire 120 mins.

I'll make it a wee bit clearer. Who's better on current form, i.e. the last few games? I know Hibs are miles behindon points, mostly because they started badly.

I'm not talking up Hibs, I'm saying we don't need to be any more fearful today than at Easter Road the other week.

If we play like we did at Easter road we'll get beat today.

Got pelters for starting this thread the other day for some reason, but it seemed a sensible question. Here are two more. Which of the pair gave us the hardest game recently? And who thinks the way they're going Hibs might finish above Rangers?

Hibs gave is the hardest game. Hibs won't finish above Rangers.

Rangers are easily better than Hibs regardless of HIbs beating them in one game. Rangers are beating the rest of the teams reasonably easily whereas Hibs are struggling to build up real momentum and consistency. And while Rangers players still have a bit of confidence (mostly arrogance) you get the feeling Hibs players' confidence is very fragile and they have virtually zero self-belief especially in derbies. Both have similarly honking managers though. McCoist has no clue and Stubbs seems to confuse losing and drawing with winning and thinks that conceding 3 vs Dumbarton is OK.

Unless you are adeluded straw clutching hibbie the team 10 points ahead after 13 games

nicely put

re ToM's clarification re recent games - that's not enough games to say. Lets see where are on 3 Jan.

If I'm honest Hibs look a far better team than the Huns to me.

Rangers were incredibly poor yesterday.  That performance was criminal.

If Rangers visit The San Giro in a few weeks and get horsed then watch the scramble to have a sixteen team top league!

Agree with this. The chancers ruining our game will get the Rangers back in the top league by hook or crook.(most likely the latter)

Hibs though are a decent side on their day. Trouble for them though is they are fragile squad wise boosted by loans. I think they are likely to fade as the season progresses.

Hibs always seem to cope with The Rangers though and would have no fears in a head to head with them.

What a laugh though if QoS pipped the both of them. :qqb006:

Rangers are staying afloat by kicking other teams off the pitch. Hibs are actually trying to play football, just aren't very good at it.

I can easily see Rangers age catching up with them and finishing behind Hibs.

Over the season, I'd take the huns to finish above the hobos, in a one off game at Fester, I can see the hobos win, or at worst take a draw.  The hobos seem to raise their game against us and the huns, then fall back on their faces against some of the smaller sides.  They haven't got the consistency to challenge for a top 2 spot, but on their day can raise their game against the big teams.

A couple of posts echoing what I was getting at yesterday and what seems more obvious after the game. Hibs gave us the better game and I don't think it's beyond all possibility for them to catch Rangers if both keep playing as they are.

Based on the last six matches, Hibs have the fourth best form in the league; Queen of the South, (who have also scored more goals in this time), have better form than both Rangers and Hibs.

If you extend this to eight matches, where Hibs' unbelievable Championship winning form has seen them almost break into the top 3, then Hibs as Rangers have both picked up 16 points, and QOTS 14. We've made six points on both the former two teams.

They have something in common which works hugely to our advantage.  One lot can't get rid of Ally and the other can't get rid of Rod.

Meanwhile we are rock solid in terms of all our staff.

Every chardonnay I have had for the lest 6 months has tasted like nectar.

Rangers are still better than Hibs.

Hibs had some early season issues, but Hearts, Rangers and Hibs are all clearly better than the rest of the league.

Tin hat on but I'd go as far as saying in terms of squad us and hibs are pretty similar.

They had an absolute shocker to start the season off though and the good old hibs self defeatist attitude had set in.

We also had confidence on side whilst they had just been relegated. They're starting to pick up now though and I reckon they won't be too far behind rangers come the end of the season but I think their shite start may have cost them.

Hearts hibs and rangers won't drop that many points against the other teams now I don't think so it will most likely come down to the head to heads to decide the top 3.

We're obviously looking the best at the moment and I reckon it will stay that way, hopefully.

Just as well you've got your tinhat on mate!

Man for man throughout the squad we are well ahead of Hibs. I can;t be bothered comparing us vs them man for man but department by department:

Our goalie is better and our reserve goalies are better

In defence our first choice back 4 of Paterson, Wilson, Ozturk and McHattie is the best defence in the league by a country mile and they have nowhere near the same quality in reserve as McGhee, Mackay and Eckersley.

In midfield we're way stronger with better players in reserve

Out wide we have the best wingers in the league

Up front we have much more quality, have scored way more goals and have more options (they basically rely on Malonga right now, before that it was the guy who got injured)

And in terms of youngsters coming through we seem to be ahead of them there with youngsters like Buchanan and Hamilton getting the odd game and not looking out of place

Hibs are playing well at the moment and have actually picked up some decent quality in Gray, Allan and Malonga.

But those three aside, there's a general low level of quality in their squad which means they struggle to put games against good sides to bed even when dominating.

As an example, we have King Walker and Nicholson scrapping for 2 wing spots while they've had to play guys like Stanton and Harris who appear to be shite.

Rangers have a superior squad to Hibs but a much much worse manager.

Stubbs is developing hibs quite well imo and i think they'll start to do consistently better against the smaller teams now but they still lack the quality and depth to be as effective as us and are too far behind to win the league. I'm starting to fancy them for 2nd though
