Dundee Utd sign Farid El Alagui (NHC - sadly)

Say What Again

On loan from Brentford for the rest of the season.

Looks a decent addition for them, as he scored goals for fun for Falkirk. Not a bad selection of attacking options they have at Tannadice :( (EDIT: didn't realise Goodwillie was returning to Blackburn, so it's more of a one out, one in)

Goodwillie was in poor condition, so no surprise that he's gone.

El Alagui had an excellent record at Falkirk, so this could be an excellent deal for United.

This is probably the type of player we would do well to have on board next season. Knows the Championship and been very successful in it before

unless of course our signing policy must be restricted to former players.........

Pretty shite this watching every team improve while we dont.

It is possibly the hardest point of our administration process so far.

Even hibs releasing players made me think long and hard about where we are!

Hardly "everyone else" but I take your point.

Never heard of Kiss and Slew tbh.

Edit: Or Adam Campbell.

Kiss & Slew are massive in the underground porn scene at the minute. They are that scenes version of Chaka Demus & Pliers or The Fresh Prince & Jazzy Jeff.

Can't believe a man of your knowledge has never heard of them though.

Didn't Adam Campbell turn down the vermin? There was a young forward from Newcastle Calderwood wanted to being with him but got pied.

He's just gone on loan to Dundee United, if he does reasonably well there I'd imagine they'll look to take him on for next season. Therefore, we've no chance.

He could be a good signing for them, he scored a load of goals at this level last time round. I'd hoped he would end up with us after my brother in law raved about him at Falkirk but they do have a habit of ruining players

It's on Hibs.net that he has signed for Hibs pictures of him and Stubbs at a cow shed in the middle of a big field.

But how can this be, he has been signed by Mr Fussy, hasn't he?

He was great at Falkirk but Dundee United fans really didn't like the look of him. He done his knee in when he was at Brentford and its possible he's not quite the same player. I wouldn't get too worried about Hibs signing him.

Think he's just another one season wonder. Scottish football has been littered with foreign players with average careers who arrive with a bang then revert to type while moving from team to team each hoping he'll recreate the form that got him noticed.

Hold on, title says Dundee United and now everyone's saying Hibs?

A player ripe for ruining by them. I bet Orson Sow's way better.

I'd heard we were in for him at one point but I'm guessing Sow is seen as a better option.

But I wouldn't be surprised if he was getting more than we offered at Hibs either. They need to sign some players quick so they're probably chucking cash at him in their usual cackhanded way.

I bet that Alan Stubbs watched him closely for Dundee United and Falkirk. either that or working with the youngsters at Everton he paid close attention to a 28 year old playing 23 games in two years for Brentford.

I would be surprised if Sow was the better option considering they had agreed to sign him then didn't and now he's on trial with us. More likely they are spending more desperate to go back up on a player who has done it for one season and like butcher done feck all at brentford.

Had a great record at Falkirk but not hitting the ground running at Brentford and subsequently being dropped took the shine off him a bit.

Maybe that's why he wasn't a massive scorer for United last season or maybe he just wasn't quite a top flight striker? Either way it's a good move for both parties if he joins Hibs although of course I hope not.

According to his Wikipedia he was training with us.

Was it El Alagui that was a keeper until he turned pro?

Going by Hibs past signing record they do not have a scobie on what player presents a "best option". I have never seen this guy play but going by the performance of Sow at the weekend and comments made by Robbie I will be happy to accept that he is OUR best option.

Journeyman.

Might get a few goals in the Championship but they're miles behind us right now and time's running out rapidly. Our guys have been together for a few weeks now, anyone they bring in now is going to have less than four weeks to gel with the squad. Early games against us and Rangers will not bode well for them.

If hibs had first dibs on sow and signed the Falkirk gadge instead then he's not our best option he's the option available. Saying that I'll be delighted if he's a much better signing.

How do you know the Falkirk gadge is a better option for Hearts than Sow?

I don't. We will never know. He's a better option for them though otherwise sow would have signed for them and not the Falkirk boy.

So a player isn't signed for a team due to a change in management, this means he's not good enough and not OUR best option.

Or it could be that due to the management upheaval things went quiet on a deal so the player decided to look else where. Or the manager of the club that didn't sign him is clueless and would prefer to go with a name that the fans know. Or hibs are crap and when stubbs had a look at him he didn't 'fit in' with what they had or wanted. Which ever one it was, the lad put a shift in for us and OUR management seem keen BUT are willing to hold off if the deal isn't right for them. Sounds like good business sense to me, and we end up with the players we want at the price we are willing to pay. Hate this, if hibs looked at him and didn"t take him then he's not good enough for us. Pish, if our coaches think he's good enough then more full hibs for having the option and screwing up.

Your looking far too much into this mate. If Sow signs after impressing on trial then I'm happy enough, he may or may not be better than the Falkirk player. What I said is hibs had first dabs on Sow, hasn't signed him and went for the Falkirk guy instead which makes him their preffered option. Rightly or wrongly. Your getting far too worked up over nothing.

sorry, misinterpreted your post and my reply wasn't necessarily aimed directly at you. It just gets my goat when people think that because a player was at hibs/passed up by hibs then he isn't good enough for us. Apologies again for the apparent 'attack' wasn't meant and was bourne out of frustration.

Cool mate. Sorry if I wasn't clear enough. If Sow has done enough to impress the management it's good enough for me regardless of who didn't want him. History shows it doesn't always work out best for teams that pass players by.
