Whos everyones best ever team and why?

Gordon- season 2005/06 is quite possibly the single most consistent i have ever seen a keeper play

Weir- cracking centre half but thought he was tremendous at right bk as well

Levein- only seen tail wnd of his career but was just pure an utter class

Webby- like levein total class and makes the game look easy

Takis- without question the best full bk ive seen at tynecastle

JC- absolute joy to watch even though he was coming to the end of his career

Hartley- driving force in the 2006 cup winning team and dragged us through games

Guerin- maube surprising but the man was utter class and i wish wed seen him in his prime

Rudi- legend, no more needs said

Robbo- goalscoring GOD

Janny- i think him and robbo would have been awesome together

Who I've seen;

Gordon - One of Europe's best goalkeepers in 2006.

McGowan Zaliukas Webster Fyssas - Would love to have seen this defence in their prime.

Mikoliunas Aguiar Hartley Skacel Pretty much a 2005-07 midfield, good balance.

Jankauskas Bednar - We've not had a great choice of forwards over the years, they were the exception.

From those I watched

1 - Niemi - Excellent keeper.

2 - Neilson - like Pressley, dependable and solid

4 -Pressley - not amazing but a fantastic captain

6 -Webster - wonderful centreback

3 - Fyssas - never see his like at Tynie again

11 - McCann - the best Scottish winger I've seen in Maroon

5 - Brellier - the rock that our 05/06 team needed to attack

10 - Hartley - An excellent attacking midfielder

8 - Skacel - 05/06 was standout but 5-1 was his game

7 - Robertson - saw his last few years but always a threat.

9 - Fuller - Janny misses out for him. Wish we'd got him in on a full deal.

I could give you a different starting XI and subs almost every time I attempt this actually. I went for Cameron and Skacel this time but any combination of Hartley/Cameron/McCann/Skacel would be devastating really! Leaving out Fulton is just bizarre, as is the exclusion of Allan Johnston.

rudi must stay

Niemi - Gordon was great but Niemi was more reliable IMO

Neilson - same as Niemi when called upon he never let us down

Webster

Pressley - Zaluikas is great, but those two as a combination, on their day, could stop anyone putting the ball in the net

Naysmith - my favorite ever Hearts player, when he went forward he could create things singlehandedly

Cameron - I know he usually played as a central midfielder, but I can't think of anyone, in my time watching Hearts, that's stood out in this position

Brellier - I liked Mrowiec alot, so I was tempted to put him in, but unlike JB he didn't seem to perform in the bigger matches

Hartley

Skacel - both probably don't need an explanation

Fuller - I wish I could say he wasn't the best striker i'd seen, but that goal against Motherwell summed him up as a player. I've never seen anyone since, in a maroon shirt, score a goal like that

Velicka - for me, this guys a legend. Adam and Bednar were great, but they didn't scored with the ease Velicka did

Craig Beattie surely ahead of them both.

Beattie only played about 6 games.

John Robertson would be in if I'd seen him play.

Miller played about 15, Beattie certainly did more for us in his time here and most had forgotten what it was like to have a real striker. Also like you if I'd seen enough of Robertson he'd be a certainty.

Aye yer right, how dare people form their opinions on the 'all time greatest XI'. Surely everyone MUST choose the all conquering team from the 50s from now on as they were universally known as the 'all time greatest Hearts XI'?

I've not seen anyone saying an XI from the 50's should automatically qualify as the greatest Hearts XI. What I have seen however, are many, many better right backs than Robbie Neilson play for Hearts.

Opinions my man, opinions. Would be shite if everybody agreed. My inclusion of Robbie was taking into consideration the years service he provided for us and he was never the worst, could have easily opted for Lockey or Frail but (in my opinion) I chose Robbie. Just out of interest if you have seen many, many better right backs than Robbie, bearing in mind that he was in the Scottish XI - name 5.

Never seen McLaren play hence why I didn't mention him, certainly never seen Weir at rb and personally wouldn't have McPherson in my XI. And thats what the OP requested, peoples all time greatest Hearts team, fair enough you dont agree with my Neilson pick, I dont agree with your McPherson pick, thats life. Like I said before it would be shite if we all agreed on the same.

Freddie Glidden, sorry but you must be related to the guy, ok a legend for being the cup winning captain in 1956, but was only in the side because first choice captain Bobby Parker was injured, guys like Alan Anderson Levein McPherson David Weir and Stephen Pressley were far far better players than Glidden, and that's no disrespect to the guy, but he wasn't even an automatic choice for Hearts for a long spell, in fact he had left the club shortly after the 1958 championship win

Calm down Robbie, it's nothing against you personally :cool4:

Mc Laren was outstanding, fair enough if you never saw him play. Weir regularly played right back for us before moving to centre half. McPherson won 20 odd caps for Scotland his performances for us earned him a transfer to Rangers helped them win a treble and a double in two seasons. To be honest my comment wasn't mainly directed at you, as you say you picked Neilson in a all Scottish XI (still wrong mind), but some people had him in their greatest ever side, which I just don't get.

The whole argument of not picking players in an all time team because you never saw them play doesn't always wash. It would be like asking people to pick an all time greatest team and leaving out Pele and Maradona. How anyone cannot pick Robbo is beyond me to be honest, regardless of whether they saw him play or not. FFS someone has Lee Miller ahead of him.

Have we ever had a quality right back?

Gowser and Maybury were both good for us but nor really all that special.
