Rio Fined For 'Choc Ice' Twitter Comment

Last Updated 16:01 17/08/2012
Rio Ferdinand has been fined £45,000 by the Football Association for comments he made on Twitter about the John Terry racism trial.

The FA's Independent Regulatory Commission found him guilty of improper conduct after he endorsed a comment about Chelsea defender Ashley Cole.

During the trial, the Manchester United defender received a message on his Twitter account describing Cole as a "choc ice" - a term understood to mean someone black on the outside, but white on the inside.

He wrote back, saying: "I hear you fella! Choc ice is classic hahahahah!!"

Chelsea captain Terry was cleared last month of racially abusing Ferdinand's brother, Anton, during a match against QPR last October.

Cole gave evidence on behalf of Terry during the trial.

A statement from the FA said: "The commission decided that the comment was improper and brought the game into disrepute.

"In addition, the commission found that the breach included a reference to ethnic origin, colour or race.

"Ferdinand was fined £45,000 and warned as to his future conduct."

The fine is the equivalent to nearly three days' pay for the Man United star.

"Nearly three days pay."

I think the phrase they're looking for is "less than three days pay."

To be honest, I despise most footballers at Ferdinand's level.

Deserved fine. What a stupid thing to say even if you are just sticking up for your brother.

One of the reasons footballers should be banned from having twitter accounts. Ferdinand is every bit as bad as Terry. Mibbe even worse. Arse of a man.

He's an absolute roaster for sure but never as bad as JT, that guy is the lowest of the low.

£45k? Is chump change to him, he won't even miss it, the English FA must rake in a fortune from all the arsehole footballers who have an opinion on twitter/media... It'll help pay for their training complex very quickly!

There is very little to like about pampered, overpaid premiership footballers, can't stand them either.

£45k isn't a drop in the ocean to him.

It's probably akin to the £50 notes Jankauskas (allegedly) used to throw around the dressing room for breaking the rules

Rio should be down on his bended knees praying to his god if there is one that he was blessed with the skills to play the beautiful game. Because people like him and Terry,Cole and too many others like them, were not born with the 'intelligent gene'. Posted ImagePosted Image
